OWERRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WHERE ARE THE FUNDS, WHERE IS THE DEVELOPMENT, AND WHERE IS THE SECURITY?

OWERRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WHERE ARE THE FUNDS, WHERE IS THE DEVELOPMENT, AND WHERE IS THE SECURITY?

An Urgent Call for Accountability, Transparency, and Responsible Leadership

My good people of Owerri Federal Constituency, good morning!

Today, I stand before you with a heavy heart and a serious question: What exactly is happening to our constituency?

Nigeria has borrowed enormous sums of money from international financial institutions and other lenders, with successive administrations promising that these resources would support economic growth, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and sustainable development.

But here in Owerri Federal Constituency, what can we point to as evidence of the development that should improve the lives of our people?

How can a federal constituency comprising three local government areas—Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, and Owerri West—continue to struggle with deplorable roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, and growing insecurity?

Are we truly part of a modern state, or have we been abandoned to live in a forgotten era?

My people, these are not questions of political hatred. They are questions of public responsibility.

We must demand answers.

WHERE ARE THE FUNDS MEANT FOR DEVELOPMENT?

Where are the funds allocated for our roads?

Where are the resources meant to rehabilitate our health centres and improve access to quality healthcare?

What projects have been completed? What projects are ongoing? What amounts were budgeted, released, and actually spent?

We need clear answers from the relevant authorities at every tier of government.

Let us be clear: I am not accusing any individual of stealing public funds. I am demanding transparency, verifiable records, and accountability for public resources.

Public funds are not private property. Governance is a public trust, and every public officeholder owes the people an explanation.

If loans are contracted in the name of Nigeria, Nigerians deserve to know how those loans are being used, what projects they finance, and what benefits they are expected to deliver.

After all, the ordinary Nigerian will ultimately bear the burden of repaying these debts through taxation and the wider economic consequences of public borrowing.

We cannot continue accumulating debts while our communities struggle for basic infrastructure.

OUR ROADS ARE IN DISTRESS!

The condition of roads across our constituency is unacceptable.

Our communities deserve accessible roads, functional drainage systems, properly maintained public facilities, and healthcare centres that meet appropriate standards.

We cannot continue to accept excuses while our people suffer.

The relevant local, state, and federal authorities must explain their respective responsibilities, disclose the projects and funds under their control, and publish clear timelines for addressing these problems.

We deserve more than political speeches. We deserve measurable results.

OUR PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER SAFE!

Another issue demanding immediate attention is the growing insecurity confronting our communities.

Reports of armed robbery, household burglaries, theft, cult-related violence, and other security threats have become deeply disturbing.

In parts of Owerri Municipal, residents are increasingly worried about attacks on their homes, where criminals reportedly threaten occupants at gunpoint and escape with valuables.

Our people cannot sleep peacefully in their own homes while criminals operate with such frightening audacity.

We are also concerned about violent incidents involving suspected herders and the broader security challenges affecting our communities.

Every life matters. Every home deserves protection. Every resident deserves to live without fear.

I therefore call on the relevant security agencies, community leaders, and government authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve neighbourhood security, investigate reported crimes, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

We must not wait until more lives are lost before taking decisive action.

WHERE ARE OUR PROFESSIONALS AND STRATEGIC THINKERS?

My people, I ask again:

Where are our technocrats?

Where are our administrators?

Where are our development experts?

Where are the professionals who understand how to plan, manage, and monitor public resources?

Have we lost the capacity to develop our communities? Have we abandoned accountability as a principle of public administration?

Or have we simply become accustomed to accepting less than we deserve?

It is not wrong to ask questions. It is not an act of disloyalty to demand accountability. And it is certainly not a crime to expect good governance.

Silence cannot build our roads. Silence cannot equip our hospitals. Silence cannot secure our homes.

We must rise above political sentiments and insist on responsible leadership.

ELECTIONS MUST NOT BE AN ESCAPE ROUTE FROM ACCOUNTABILITY!

As the 2027 elections approach, we will hear many promises.

Some will tell us what they intend to do. Others will remind us of projects they claim to have attracted or completed.

That is fine. But this time, we must ask the necessary questions.

What did you promise when you first sought office?

What did you accomplish?

What public resources were entrusted to you?

What can you show us to demonstrate responsible stewardship?

What measurable improvements did your tenure bring to the lives of our people?

We must demand evidence, not propaganda; records, not rumours; and measurable results, not empty declarations.

My position is simple: if you cannot account for your stewardship, you should not expect the people to reward you with another term in office.

Anyone seeking public office must be prepared to explain their record, disclose relevant achievements, and submit to legitimate public scrutiny.

Accountability must not begin only when elections are approaching. It must be a continuous obligation throughout every administration.

THE TIME HAS COME FOR GRASSROOTS RENEWAL!

My people, I believe it is time to rethink the kind of leadership we send to represent us.

We cannot continue to measure leadership by the weight of a person’s pocket, the size of campaign handouts, or the number of people entertained during political gatherings.

Money distributed during an election cannot replace a functioning road.

Rice, wrappers, and temporary financial gifts cannot substitute for effective representation.

And no amount of campaign spending can excuse a failure to account for public responsibility.

We need people who understand the struggles of ordinary families, who know the realities of our communities, and who are willing to remain answerable to the people who elected them.

We need grassroots representation rooted in accountability, inclusion, and practical solutions.

We need representatives who understand that the House of Representatives is not a personal business venture. It is a constitutional institution with responsibilities for lawmaking, representation, appropriation, and oversight.

Our people deserve representatives who will use those responsibilities to pursue development, scrutinise public expenditure, raise community concerns, and demand answers from the appropriate authorities.

MY COMMITMENT TO OWERRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

As I present myself before you as a candidate for the House of Representatives, I make this commitment:

I will continue to demand transparency in the management of public resources.

I will advocate for improved roads, stronger healthcare services, and safer communities.

I will use the constitutional responsibilities of the office to press for answers, scrutinise relevant public expenditure, and monitor projects affecting our constituency.

I will not tell you that a member of the House of Representatives can single-handedly perform the duties of a governor, local government chairman, or minister. That would be dishonest.

Instead, I will tell you the truth about what the office can do, what it cannot do, and how we can use representation, legislation, appropriation, and oversight to advance the interests of our people.

And I believe that public office must come with public accountability.

If you cannot account for public funds, do not ask the people to trust you with more. If you cannot demonstrate responsible stewardship, do not demand another mandate.

My good people, the economic consequences of irresponsible borrowing, poor public expenditure, and weak accountability will not spare the ordinary citizen. Our children and future generations may inherit debts without inheriting the infrastructure and opportunities those debts were supposed to create.

We must act now.

Let us ask questions. Let us demand answers. Let us insist on transparency. Let us choose leaders based on character, competence, verifiable records, and a commitment to public service.

This is not about political bitterness. It is about the future of our children, the dignity of our communities, and the survival of our democracy.

Enough of excuses. Enough of politics without accountability. Enough of leadership without measurable results.

The time has come for responsible leadership and genuine grassroots development.

God bless Owerri Federal Constituency.

God bless Imo State.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
