Nigerian activist Vincent Martis Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man, has been granted bail with his trial adjourned to December 16, 2024.

The activist was remanded in police custody since May following charges of cyberstalking.

Very Dark Man faced arraignment on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he was charged with five counts of cyberstalking related to the Nigeria police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike. The activist pleaded not guilty to all charges.

During the court proceedings, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail.

However, the police prosecuting team requested additional time to respond to the bail application, prompting Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon to adjourn the bail hearing to May 29.

Although the prosecution sought to have Very Dark Man remanded in prison custody, his legal team successfully argued for his remand in police custody instead.

Consequently, the court granted this request, and the activist was taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.

After the adjournment, the court has now granted bail to Very Dark Man, and the trial has been rescheduled to December 16, 2024.

The forthcoming trial in December is expected to continue to draw substantial interest from both the public and the media.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of a multi-story hotel that collapsed in Jikwoyi, Abuja last Friday, April 4 and announced that the land would be seized for public use.

LIB had reported that the building crumbled while workers were on site, triggering an emergency response from relevant authorities.

Visiting the site today April 7, Wike said the building was constructed without approval from the FCT Department of Development Control and that all the stop-work notices sent to the builders were ignored by the developer.

Wike confirmed that while there were no fatalities, several people sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. He warned that the outcome could have been far worse.

Announcing the government’s plans for the land, Wike said the FCT Administration will take over the land for public use, noting that those responsible for the illegal construction will face prosecution in accordance with the law.

He added that the local community would be consulted to determine a suitable public-purpose project for the reclaimed site.
