Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday shifted the terrorism trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to October 16th, 2025.

The postponement followed the inability of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, to present its report on Kanu’s health status before the court.

Justice Omotosho had during the last adjourned date ordered the NMA President to constitute a board of medical experts to carry out investigations on the alleged deteriorating health of the defendant.

The medical examination is to, among others, ascertain whether the medical facility at the Department of the State Services, DSS, Headquarters can cater for Kanu’s treatment, or whether he should be moved to the National Hospital – as requested by his lawyers.

The report is also to determine whether Kanu is fit to stand for continuation of his trial.

However, at Wednesday’s proceedings, DSS lawyer, Mr Suraj S’aad, SAN, informed Justice Omotosho that the medical board told them that the report is not ready for presentation as directed by the court.

The senior lawyer therefore applied for a one-week adjournment to enable the NMA medical board conclude its investigation.

Following no objection to the adjournment request, Justice Omotosho fixed October 16th, 2025, for the board to submit its report and determine the next line of proceedings.Absence of NMA medical report stalls Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial
