The 14-year-old is the son of former Nigerian sprinters Innocent and Nkiruku Iheme

Nigerian teenager Divine Iheme has broken the world’s 100-metre record in the 14-year-old category at the National Championship in Great Britain.

Iheme is the child of former Nigerian sprinters Innocent and Nkiruku, both of whom represented Nigeria at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Divine represents the country of his birth, Great Britain, ditching the country of his parents like many other athletes of dual nationality have done in the past.

Divine Iheme sets world record

According to World Athletics Hub, the 14-year-old ran 100 metres in 10.30 seconds at the National Championship, beating the previous record held by Jamaican Sachin Dennis by 0.20 seconds.

His mother and trainer Nkiruku, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the event, claimed Iheme, who broke the British record in 100m and 200m, set his sights on the world record and has deservedly achieved it.

“Everybody knows him as ‘Lightning’ Divine, that’s who he is. He looks at the record and says, ‘I want to beat that’,” she said.

“He says his target is to beat the world junior U15 [record]. The world junior record is 10.51, and he’s run three times 10.46, but because the wind was 0.2, it’s not legal, so he has the capacity to do that.”

The boy admitted to studying clips of the legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, and many fans believe he might eventually be the man to break Bolt’s 9.58-second record in 100 metres.

American sprinter posts snide remarks after beating Omanyala

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that American sprinter Fred Kerley shared a telling comment after winning the Silesia Diamond League.

The American clocked 9.87 seconds to finish ahead of Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, among others.

Kerley, who recently won bronze at the Olympic games in Paris, appeared far from being thrilled despite the win.

Chelsea are now mathematically out of the Premier League title race.

This follows their 3-0 drubbing in the hands of Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday night.

Liam Rosenior’s men came into the match with 48 points, looking to keep pace with the teams in front of them.

However, Beto opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half, before adding a second after the break.

Chelsea barely threatened Everton and looked flat for most of the game, before Iliman Ndiaye added a third.

The result means the Blues cannot match the 70 points that league leaders Arsenal currently have with seven matches left.

Champions Liverpool are also on the verge of being mathematically ruled out, as they have 49 points.

Super Eagles player bounced me from Iheanacho’s room — Osimhen

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, has claimed that a senior member of the Super Eagles squad in 2017 sent him away from a hotel room during his first call-up to the national team.

According to the 27-year-old, it was Kelechi Iheanacho who intervened and welcomed him inside.

Osimhen revealed this while appearing on a Twitch livestream with comedian, Carter Efe in the early hours of Saturday.

He said: “When I came, I met Iheanacho. And I told him, ‘ah, see me, I’m gonna carry your boots.’ So he said I should come to his room so, he gave me his room number.

“So, as I got to his room — I don’t just want to mention the name — he had a roommate. So, as I knocked on the door, the roommate opened the door. So, he like bounced me out of the room.”

Osimhen refused to reveal the identity of the player who sent him away.
