PRESS RELEASE

OSUN LG SAGA: POLICE CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, VOWS TO DEAL WITH PERPETRATORS.

As IGP Orders Deployment of Additional Tactical Squads to Restore Normalcy in Osun

In response to the ongoing violence in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force has condemned, in strong terms, the incidents that have disrupted peace and safety in the state, and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. These violent actions had disrupted the peace, leading to the destruction of property, and the unfortunate loss of innocent lives.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has taken decisive action by ordering the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to bolster security and restore law and order.

The Police recognizes that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the wellbeing of the citizens, and hereby affirms its commitment to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these acts and caused them to face the full weight of the law.

The IGP issues a stern warning to those who threaten the peace and stability in Osun State, as the Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism and anarchy in the state. The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be fished out and be caused to face the consequences of their unwarranted ill-fated acts. Citizens must remain calm as normalcy is being restored. Osun indigenes, leaders, and stakeholders are hereby urged to shun violence and go about their legitimate businesses. The judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes and political actors must respect and abide by its rulings, upholding the rule of law and democratic principles. Citizens are advised to go about their lawful business.

The Force reiterates its commitment to clamping down on any violent actors who bent on creating brouhaha and breakdown of law and order in any part of the country. The situation in Osun will be closely monitored, and measures will be enforced to ensure a safe environment for all residents.

Rivers: I won’t disclose details of peace deal with Fubara – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, says he will not reveal details of the recent truce brokered between him and suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The minister however declared that peace has returned to Rivers State.

Wike made this declaration on Thursday during a media chat at his residence in Abuja. He said rather than disclose details of the peace deal, he would instead allow people to speculate.

“I will allow you to speculate, it’s not my business. All I know is that peace has come. If you are not satisfied with that, there is nothing we can do. What is important is that peace has returned, whatever thing anybody says is not my business,” he said.

Ekwutosblog recalls that President Bola Tinubu, last month, hosted a conciliatory meeting between Wike, Fubara and the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, signaling a return to peace in the state.

The President suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers Assembly in March 2025, after a heated and long-drawn political impasse in the oil-producing state.

‘This boy ran for president, didn’t get one vote’ – Wike slams Dele Momodu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has described Dele Momodu as a ‘boy’, saying he does not even know his name.

Wike spoke on Thursday during a media chat with some select media houses.

Wike said that he does not remember the name of Dele Momodu, one of the most popular journalists in the country.

Wike’s comment about Momodu may not be unconnected to the journalist’s criticism of his political antics.

Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International Magazine, recently claimed that Wike cannot defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, because he will lose his authority.

In what appears as a response to the claim, Wike said, “There is this boy, they say he is a journalist. What’s his name? He is big.”

When a journalist said “Dele Momodu”.

Wike added, “Okay, I don’t remember all these names. He was never my friend. He ran for president, but he didn’t get one vote.”

Coalition: ‘You achieved nothing as governor’ – Wike slams Tambuwal

Published

on

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has slammed ex-Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal, over his role in the opposition coalition.

Leaders of the coalition had on many occasions criticised the President Bola Tinubu administration, accusing it of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, many of whom have been further impoverished by some of the policies of the APC government.

However, Wike and other members of the President’s camp believe that enough is being done to take Nigerians out of the current economic challenges.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Wike slammed the coalition’s leaders for saying that Nigerians are angry with President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Tambuwal and Sirika were among members of the coalition Wike specifically mentioned, accusing them of spending several years in government without touching the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

“Tambuwal, you were the Speaker for four years; what did you do to prevent Nigerians from being angry? You were the governor of Sokoto State for eight years; the people of Sokoto were happy, yet they refused to elect the person you endorsed.

“I saw Hadi Sirika in the coalition. They say Nigerians are angry and want to rescue Nigeria, so I’m asking a simple question: What happened to Air Nigeria? When Amaechi was minister, we took a heavy loan. Things were well with Nigeria then,” Wike said.
