EPL: Man City midfielder, De Bruyne in talks with next club

Man City midfielder, De Bruyne

Chicago Fire FC is in talks with Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, on a designated player contract, according to ESPN.

Fire will have the inside track to sign De Bruyne if he moves to MLS.

The Belgian confirmed he would be leaving the Premier League champions at the end of this season.

The 33-year-old’s contract with City is set to expire in June.

Inter Miami CF still has De Bruyne’s discovery rights, which is a right-of-first refusal mechanism MLS uses to prevent its teams from bidding against one another for a player’s services.

But Miami already has the maximum number of DPs with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, although all three are out of contract at the end of the season.

That appears to have opened the door for the Fire.

New York City FC and D.C. United have also reportedly expressed interest, but Chicago, with only two DPs on its roster and ambitious ownership in Joe Mansueto, appears to be an ideal landing spot should De Bruyne decide to play in MLS.

Former Super Eagles forward, Osaze Odemwingie, has slammed the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, for singling out players for blame following a recent 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The three-time African champions needed two wins from two fixtures in September to keep their hopes alive.

After a narrow 1-0 victory against Rwanda in Uyo, Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw in South Africa.

Following the draw in Bloemfontein, the NFF in a post-match report, pointed fingers at captain William Troost-Ekong and striker Cyriel Dessers.

“It is a sign that wrong people are working in our federation, it’s very unprofessional,” Odemwingie said according to Brila FM.

“These are people who work in certain positions without the required qualifications.

“They are just like fans — you can give that job to ordinary fans, and he will probably do a job as good as that person has done.”

EPL: He’s so composed, my favourites – David James picks best goalkeeper

Former England goalkeeper, David James has suggested that Liverpool’s Alisson Becker remains the best goalkeeper in the league despite Manchester City signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

According to James, the Brazilian international is his favourite goalkeeper in the Premeir League and he is so composed.

Speaking to the media (via Daily Mirror), James said: “My favourite keeper for many different reasons is Ali. Because he has all the attributes.

“He stops shots, his distribution is fantastic, his composure is so admirable and if he makes a mistake, within three seconds you don’t know what happened.

“He is just so composed about things. There are other keepers like David Raya at Arsenal, but for whatever reason, Ali is better. It is going to be very difficult for Mamardashvili to take his place.”

Liverpool signed Becker from AS Roma back in 2018 and the shot-stopper has helped the Reds to win several trophies including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
