Nigerian Police To Discipline Officers Caught Jogging Behind Actress Angela Okorie In Viral Video

In the viral video, two armed policemen were seen trailing the actress closely as she jogged casually, sparking outrage and questions over the misuse of state security personnel.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced disciplinary action against some of its armed officers who were caught on video bizarrely jogging behind Nollywood actress Angela Okorie during her workout — an act the Force described as “unprofessional and embarrassing.”

In the viral video, two armed policemen were seen trailing the actress closely as she jogged casually, sparking outrage and questions over the misuse of state security personnel.

Reacting to the video in a statement on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the conduct of the officers “clearly falls below the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” adding that their actions have triggered “widespread public criticism.”

The statement, titled ‘Viral Video Of Actress Angela Okorie With Armed Policemen’, read in part: “The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged — an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force.

“The incident, which appears to have occurred on or around a movie set, has also sparked widespread public concern and criticism.

“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“Accordingly, necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video, while appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review.”

Adejobi noted that the Force remains committed to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and public trust.

This is coming a month after the Inspector General of Police issued a stern directive warning all personnel against uploading photographs of themselves in uniform to social media platforms.

The directive also prohibited sharing any official police documents online and warned against carrying luggage or umbrellas for Very Important Persons (VIPs).

According to an internal wireless message dated May 3, 2025, and exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the instruction was relayed to all personnel of the Police Mobile Force, No. 13PMF Squadron in Makurdi, Benue State.

The memo, signed by ACP Hassan S. Aliyu, the Commanding Officer, read: “The Inspector General of Police has reiterated his warning on NPF Social Media Policy, and further directs that, on no account, should any police personnel use his or her uniform picture on any social media.

“He further warns that any official documents are also prohibited to be (sic) published on social media, while those attached to V.I.P’s are warned not to carry any V.I.P’s luggage (bags) or umbrellas, any disobedience to these directives will be viewed with severe sanction.”
