BREAKING: Obi’s Political Family, Obidient Movement Writes Him Over ADC Coalition

Published

The Obidient Movement has formally written to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressing deep concerns over alleged marginalisation within the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition formed to challenge the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Obidient Movement is the political support base of the former Anambra State governor.

In a memo dated July 29, 2025, and signed by National Coordinator Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the movement accused the coalition of sidelining its members from key decision-making structures despite their central role in building momentum behind the alliance.

“We write on behalf of the Obidient Movement to express our severe grievances regarding recent developments within the coalition’s systems. Our people are deliberately excluded at all levels,” the letter reads.

The ADC-led coalition was formally unveiled on July 2, 2025, with prominent political figures in attendance, including former Senate President David Mark (interim national chairman), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.

Although Obi has yet to officially join the party, it is understood that both Obi and El-Rufai were granted waivers to remain in their legacy parties for now.

Barely a month after the unveiling, the Obidient Movement have come out to complain that despite being instrumental to the rising influence in the opposition structure, its members have been denied a seat at the table.

“Several of our designated representatives and members are reportedly being excluded from crucial meetings where major decisions affecting the coalition are made,” Dr. Yunusa wrote.

The group also decried what it called “non-existent representation” in the coalition’s structure and urged Obi to intervene immediately.
“The current structure does not reflect the Obidient Movement’s strength and contribution to this coalition,” the memo noted. “We strongly believe that there should be at least one working committee member and one non-working committee member representing the Obidient Movement in each geopolitical zone.”

State House of Assembly suspends LG chairman

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Lafia Local Government, Mohammad Haliru Arabo, for three months over his role in the unlawful removal of the council’s Speaker.

The decision was taken during plenary in Lafia after a motion was raised by Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, who leads the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Lawmakers agreed that the action was needed to allow a fair investigation and calm the tension that followed the leadership dispute in the council.

The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, said the suspension will stand until the committee completes its findings.

He said that the current structure of the Lafia Legislative Arm will remain unchanged throughout the investigation.

During this period, the Deputy Chairman of Lafia Local Government, Uba Arikiya, has been directed to take charge of the council.

The Speaker explained that the House acted within the powers given to it by the constitution and questioned why the Chairman ventured into matters that belong to the legislature.

The Clerk of the House has been asked to notify Governor Abdullahi Sule of the resolution.

Lawmakers such as Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, Suleiman Yakubu Azara, and Larry Ven-Bawa backed the move, saying that the suspension would help prevent a wider crisis in the council and send a clear message to other local governments in the state.
