A Nigerian mother of four, Latifat Shamseddin Giwa, has reacted after a lady accused her of going diabolical in order to stop her husband from taking a second wife simply because she is married to a man who loves her immensely and appreciates all her sacrifices.

In the screenshot she shared on Facebook, the lady, Ruqoyah Oladimeji, wrote: “And is it a crime for your husband to marry another wife? What makes you think your jazz will keep working forever? Unless your husband is not a full man, wait till your own time comes. Time and seasons happen to us all.”

Latifat, who married her husband when they were still struggling, said most of the women constantly attacking her wouldn’t have taken a second look at him then.

“So this woman actually had the audacity to say I went ‘diabolical’ to stop my husband from marrying another wife. Let me set the record straight: I patiently married the love of my life, a man so intentional, so loyal, he sees all my sacrifices, my effort, my love and loves me even more for it,” she wrote in the Facebook post on Tuesday, December 23.

“And to those women coming out to spew rubbish because you see someone being loved right… may be it stings because you wish I were going through the hell you’re passing through, or maybe you’re secretly hoping he’d choose one of you as a second wife. Some of you wouldn’t even look at him twice when we were struggling!

“I relied on Allah in every step of my life, and He blessed me with a husband worth every bit of patience and prayer.

“As for falsely accusing me… may Allah judge you. And I seek refuge in Allah over my marriage and everything that brings me true happiness.”

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has introduced mandatory pre-employment drug testing for all applicants seeking positions in the public service.

This is part of the government’s efforts to combat rising drug abuse and its impacts on national security and productivity.

A service-wide circular issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) directs Permanent Secretaries and heads of Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), as well as extra-ministerial departments and parastatals, to incorporate drug screening into their recruitment processes.

MDAs are required to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct the tests, ensuring compliance with established standards.

The policy stems from concerns over the “alarming rate” of substance abuse, particularly among Nigeria’s youth, which the government says threatens public health, socio-economic development, workplace efficiency, and national security.

Signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, the statement underscored the administration’s commitment to protecting the workforce from drug-related issues.

This move aligns with ongoing anti-drug initiatives, including recent policies for mandatory testing in universities and other sectors.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a nationwide tightening of security ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, directing all police commands to significantly increase surveillance and protection across worship centres, highways and major public spaces across the country.

The directive places counter-terrorism operatives, bomb disposal units, intelligence teams and mobile police formations on full alert as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and incident free Yuletide period for Nigerians.

In line with the order, police personnel have been strategically deployed to churches, mosques, motor parks, markets, recreational centers, hotels and other high traffic locations.

Major highways and interstate routes are also under intensified patrol to curb robbery, kidnapping and other crimes often associated with increased festive movement.

Specialised units including the Counter Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, Police Mobile Force, Highway Patrol, Marine Police and the Airwing have been directed to maintain round the clock operational readiness and rapid response capability to any emerging security threat.

The Inspector General further instructed Commissioners of Police across the states to strengthen intelligence driven operations, conduct visible and proactive patrols and deepen collaboration with other security agencies, community leaders and relevant stakeholders to identify and neutralize potential threats before they escalate.

Police authorities explained that the enhanced security measures are aimed at protecting lives and property, deterring criminal activities and ensuring that citizens can worship, travel and celebrate the festive season without fear or disruption.

Members of the public have also been urged to remain vigilant, cooperate with security operatives and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or objects to the nearest police station or designated emergency lines.

With the comprehensive security deployment now in place, the Nigeria Police Force has assured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining law and order and delivering a safe, peaceful and secure Yuletide celebration nationwide.
