Wike, Fubara feud like Middle East crisis – Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has likened the lingering political crisis in Rivers State to the prolonged conflicts in the Middle East.
Sani made the comparison in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, noting that the crisis repeatedly resurfaces whenever it appears to have ended.
“Rivers political hostilities is like the crisis in the Middle East; whenever you thought it’s over, it re-emerges in a different form,” Sani said.
His comment followed a fresh round of political tension that erupted on Monday within the All Progressives Congress, APC, over developments in Rivers State politics.
Ekwutosblog reports that this came after sharp exchanges involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Victor Giadom.
The controversy centres on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had recently moved to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Recall that both Wike and Fubara have been embroiled in a political rivalry over the control of Rivers’ resources and political power.

Fubara Breaks Silence Days After Rivers Assembly Members Began Impeachment Proceedings Against Him (Video)
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appealed to residents to remain calm as the State House of Assembly advances moves to impeach him.
The governor made the appeal on Sunday during a church service in Port Harcourt held to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
He reassured the congregation that the situation would be resolved.
Governor Fubara explained that his silence amid the unfolding developments was intentional, stating that his confidence and resilience are rooted in his faith in God.
Referring to comments he made during the New Year banquet at the Government House, the governor remarked that “dogs bark when they do not understand”.
In her address, the Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Ngozi Odu, who also addressed the worshippers, encouraged the public to conduct themselves responsibly, echoing the message of the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who had emphasized in his sermon that every action would one day be remembered.

Angry Algerian players confronted referee Isaa Sy following their 2–0 defeat to Nigeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sy had to be escorted into the dressing room for his safety, after Algerian fans clashed with stadium security.
