President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has accepted the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, following the submission of his letter citing pressing family considerations.

President Tinubu received Mr Egbetokun’s resignation earlier today and expressed his profound appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation. The President acknowledged his dedication, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to strengthening internal security architecture during his tenure.

Appointed in June 2023, Egbetokun was serving a four-year term scheduled to conclude in June 2027, in line with the amended provisions of the Police Act.

In view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, and acting in accordance with extant laws and legal guidance, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.

The President is confident that AIG Disu’s experience, operational depth, and demonstrated leadership capacity will provide steady and focused direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.

In compliance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of AIG Disu as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.

The President reiterates his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing national security, strengthening institutional capacity, and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and fully equipped to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

A Nigerian lady identified as Susan has stirred conversations online after publicly announcing that she is searching for a man to marry her before 2027.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the 24-year-old explained that she decided to “let her guards down” after noticing that other women who openly declared their intentions to find love eventually succeeded.

According to Susan, she has never been married but has a child who currently lives with her grandmother.

She alleged that the child’s father abandoned them, adding that it has been a long time since she was in a relationship.

In her words, she said:

“I’m 24. I haven’t been married. I have a kid and she’s with her grandmother. The kid’s father ran away. It’s been long since I’ve been in a relationship.”

Describing herself as a “rising star,” Susan revealed that her pastor once prophesied that her glory lies in the future.

She expressed confidence that any man who marries her now would enjoy a brighter tomorrow alongside her.

“I’m a rising star. My pastor used to tell me my star is for the future. If you marry me now, our future will be bright,” she added.

However, she outlined clear conditions for her potential partner. Susan stated that the man must be willing to accept her child and must be financially stable.

She also clarified that physical appearance is not a priority for her.

The video has since generated mixed reactions, with some social media users applauding her honesty and courage, while others questioned her decision to search for a life partner publicly.

Police silent as Sowore alleges removal of IGP Egbetokun

Kayode Egbetokun

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday alleged that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been removed from office.

Sowore claimed that Egbetokun had been replaced by a senior officer currently serving at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Lagos.

He, however, did not provide official confirmation to back the claim.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no statement from the Presidency or the Nigeria Police Force confirming the development.

When contacted, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not answer calls placed to his phone.

He subsequently sent a message asking that a text message be forwarded to him, assuring that he would respond.

However, as at press time, he had yet to reply.

Sowore has repeatedly questioned Egbetokun’s tenure, arguing that the police chief ought to have exited office upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as acting Inspector-General of Police in October 2023, pending confirmation by the National Assembly. The appointment took effect on October 31, 2023.

Following controversy over the IGP’s tenure, the Federal Government sponsored an amendment to the Police Act providing for a single four-year term for an Inspector-General of Police, irrespective of age or years of service.

The provision allows Egbetokun to remain in office until October 2027.
