According To President Tinubu, “My Administration Will Use NIN For Social Intervention Programmes For Venerable Nigerians And Also Empowerment Schemes”.

The President Has Urged Nigerians To Process Their NIN Registrations.

President Bola Tinubu has declared that without National Identity Card registration and comprehensive data coverage, it is nearly impossible for the government to provide social welfare measures for the underprivileged in the country.

Speaking at the Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration is tirelessly working to enhance their living standards.

According to him, local authorities must advocate for the acquisition of the National Identification Number (NIN) by citizens, essential for strategic planning, structuring supportive interventions, and integrating them entirely into relief schemes.

“I urge the state chairmen that regardless of party affiliation, let us help citizens by mobilizing them for NIN registration. Not just PVCs.
“Some are poor Nigerians who have not experienced formal education and have no understanding of what NIN is and how it will benefit their lives. We must teach them. We must care for them.
“Without NIN, we can not embark on social security interventions for the vulnerable. We will be making faulty moves without accurate data and iron-clad, digital intervention structures.
“I have established a committee of governors, and it is headed by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima. It is working on what must be done to further lift our people,” he stated.
Furthermore, the president highlighted some of the relied programmes currently being rolled out by his administration including student loans, the national consumer credit system, and social welfare for the unemployed and graduates, among others.

“The programme of our government will be truly progressive; student loans, a national consumer credit system, and social welfare for the unemployed, as well as graduates.
“Every Nigerian will find a place of belonging in our country. In the eye of even the biggest hurricane, we will find that place of tranquillity and prosperous harmony for the benefit of all. Nigerians will all partake on this national journey to prosperity,’’ he said.

While this data coverage is notably extensive, the country still faces challenges in social welfare integration owing to inadequate data.
According to World Bank Nigeria’s target is 148 million by June 2024 under the Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) project.
In November 2023, the president launched the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS), alongside the National Geospatial Data Repository and the National Coordination Committee on CRVS.
The system Is set to improve the ability of the federal agencies to generate vital statistics on important population events and migration, further enabling the government to design well-tailored, effective and efficient policies, capable of meeting the needs of the Nigerian people.

Give us money, ignore critics – Umahi begs Tinubu

Published

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release more funds for infrastructural projects.

Umahi said Tinubu should discountenance critics and release more funds for the execution of projects.

He made the appeal during the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos on Thursday.

The Minister said the project has been endorsed by international financiers and they described it as undervalued.

According to Umahi: “I want to assure you, sir, that the international financiers have given you kudos because they say the project is even undervalued.

“Sir, don’t listen to people. Give us more money; we will deliver all these projects, sir. We will deliver.”

Umahi also highlighted the complexities in the construction of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos.

He faulted those demanding to know the cost of the project because they feel it’s inflated and corruption is involved.

“When people gather counsel without knowledge… Your Excellency, I am a Fellow of the Society of Engineers, and I understand the figures; I understand this work.

“I want to thank you for commissioning the first 30km, and I reassure you that this first section will be completed by December. We shall toll it, and Section 2 will also be close to completion. I commend the contractor very highly,” he added.

ADC holds coalition meeting in Abia

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, and its coalition partners convened a landmark political summit in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, describing it as a unified front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Don Norman Obinna, chairman of ADC in Abia State, announced during the meeting that the party has officially been adopted as the platform for the coalition’s political resurgence.

According to him, this move is not about political realignment alone but a response to years of governance failure, economic mismanagement, and citizen disenfranchisement under the present APC administration.

“ADC is adopted as a coalition party to right the wrongs orchestrated by the APC. The unemployment rate is alarming, the naira is in a free fall, and the civil servants’ minimum wage is a national disgrace,” Don Norman declared.

According to him, the coalition’s mission will bring succour to the people, chase hunger out of Nigeria, and restore the country to a trajectory of prosperity.”

He called for the liberation of Abia and Nigeria at large, through visionary leadership founded on integrity, equity, and accountability.

“Since 1999, our ideology in Abia has been to bring in men of integrity who can rebuild Nigeria with justice and fairness,” he added. “Good governance must be rooted in probity and transparency.”

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, political scholar and reform advocate, emphasised the power of stakeholder engagement and civic participation in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Professor Afamefuna condemned the marginalisation of the South East and called for rotational leadership, equitable representation, and issue-based campaigns.

“We must not sell our votes for rice, wrappers, or fake promises. Only through citizen-led accountability can Nigeria chart a new course,” he said.

Adding his voice, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate in Abia, urged the coalition brokers to critically screen aspirants and guard against the infiltration of corrupt political elements.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra Chapter, has pleaded with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, to return to the party.

Obi defected to LP when he felt he could not achieve his presidential ambition within the PDP fold.

The PDP made the call after the enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to review the state of the party and chart a way forward in Awka on Thursday.

The communique, which was signed by Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of PDP in Anambra, said alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations in the guise of coalitions would likely not yield the desired success.

“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP”

“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria,”

He told Anambra electorate to support Mr Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr Francis Okeke, in the coming election while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.
