“Akpi Is Back”: Speed Darlington Finally Regains Freedom After 2-Months in Jail, Fans React Nosa Oke-Hortons

The Nigerian social media space has been buzzing after reports about controversial singer, Darlington Achakpo better known as Speed Darlington regaining his freedom went viral.
A post shared online by Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Stan Alieke has sparked a frenzy on social media. In the post shared by Akpi’s lawyer, the controversial personality was seen sitting in the office of his client along with two other men.

Recall that Akpi’s arrest was instigated by Grammy Award winner, Burna Boy, on the grounds of defamation and libel. In Burna Boy’s petition against Akpi, he accused the rapper of alleging he was gay and sharing a sexual relationship with American music mogul, Diddy.

The Grammy winner noted that the rapper used innuendos and play-on-words to target him and defame his character. After spending nearly two months in jail, Speed Darlington is finally free and below is an excerpt of the statement shared by his lawyer on his handle:
“Delighted to announce that our client, Mr Darlington Achakpo Aka Speed Darlington (Akpi) has regained his freedom after two months of illegal incarceration.

For the record, as his team of lawyers, we will be exploring every angle of the law to ensure that he gets justice for his fundamental human right which was deprived of him by the Nigerian Police Force and for the unfair/ unjust treatment he was subjected to.

Mr Achakpo extends his gratitude to everyone who threw in their support and Special thanks to my colleagues, Mr Marshal Abubakar Esq, Barr Deji Adeyanju, Barr Hamza Nuh, and Barr David. ~ Freedom cometh by struggle.”

Popular social media commentator and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju who also worked on Speed Darlington’s case also confirmed the rapper’s release on his Twitter handle, with a tweet that reads:
“Speed Darlington is out from Kuje prison.”

‘No genuine friend in music industry’ – Ruger

Published

on

Afrobeats star Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has claimed that there is hardly genuine friendship in the Nigerian music industry.

He claimed that the highest number of genuine friends an artist can have in the music industry is two.

Featuring in a recent episode of The Stanley Agu Show, Ruger explained that relationships in the music industry are often business-oriented.

He said, “One thing I wished I had known earlier is that no one is your friend in the [music] industry. The most you can have is maybe two genuine friends that stand by you and want to see you grow and even when things are bad, they are with you and making sure that you are good. That’s all, man.

“Everything is business. Nobody cares. Just known that everything is business. They are moving around with you because you can offer at that time. The moment you might not be able to offer anything, a lot of people will switch. Remember, the most friends you can have in the industry might be two or one or none.”
