Akwa Ibom State Government’s Destructive Actions: A Blow to Small Businesses and the Economy
In a shocking display of insensitivity, the Akwa Ibom State Government, through the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), has demolished roadside kiosks, pos stands, and food joints along Stadium Road, leaving numerous small business owners in ruins. This destructive act comes at a time when the state is already grappling with economic downturn, exacerbating the suffering of the people.
The demolition exercise, described as barbaric by citizens, has not only destroyed livelihoods but also perpetuated poverty and hunger. The affected business owners, who were already struggling to make ends meet, are now left with nothing. The question on everyone’s lips is: how will these people survive now that their only source of income has been brutally taken away?
The government’s actions are a stark contradiction to their supposed mandate to provide for and support their citizens. Instead, they have chosen to inflict more pain and hardship on the very people they are meant to serve. This callous decision raises questions about the government’s priorities and their understanding of the economic realities facing the state.
Akwa Ibom State citizens have condemned in totality, the Government’s destructive actions and demand that they take immediate steps to address the plight of the affected business owners. The government must provide alternative solutions and support to help these entrepreneurs recover from this devastating blow.
The people of Akwa Ibom deserve better from their government. It is time for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and work towards creating an enabling environment for small businesses to thrive, rather than destroying them. — feeling sad.
