He attributed the discrepancy to the weaponization of party registers and corruption, emphasizing the need for a digitalized and biometric-based registration system linked to the National Identification Number.

The party has launched an e-membership registration train-the-trainer workshop to ensure a register conducted with integrity.

This development highlights the importance of truthful leadership and transparent practices in politics.

Anyone who voted for Tinubu has no regrets – Masari

Published

A close ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ibrahim Masari, has said that anyone who voted for the president in the 2023 general elections has no reason to regret their decision.

Masari, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the statement during an interview with the BBC while speaking on Tinubu’s performance as his administration marks two years in office.

“Anyone who voted for President Tinubu between himself and God has no regrets,” he said.

He added that President Tinubu has recorded many achievements, especially in the areas of security and the economy, despite the current hardship being experienced by many Nigerians.

One of the major steps taken by the president, Masari said, is the removal of fuel subsidy.

However, he defended it as a bold and necessary decision that has helped the government save money and invest in development projects.

According to him, the president demonstrated rare political courage by removing fuel subsidy, a move previous presidents could not carry.

“Past presidents wanted to do it but couldn’t. He did it because of how much of the country’s money was being wasted.”

Masari also explained that the funds previously spent on fuel and electricity subsidies are now being redirected to important areas of national development, helping both the federal and state governments to function better.

He acknowledged the hardship many Nigerians are going through but insisted that the decisions taken by President Tinubu are meant to build a stronger and more stable country in the long run.

Cross River community happy over access to water

Published

on

The people of Osusuokpor, a community in Ikom LGA of Cross River State, have expressed joy and gratitude at finally having an access to water.

The chairman of the community, Randy Njan, stated that they had neither pond nor stream from which to draw drinking water.

As a result, he said their women and children would always trek long distances to neighbouring Obubra LGA in search of water for drinking and general use.

He disclosed this when their representive (for Ikom I constituency) in the State House of Assembly, Samuel Neji Abang, commissioned a borehole in the community for their use.

The community chairman lamented that the authorities had scarcely remembered them, especially since the advent of democracy in 1999.

He expressed relief that the project has alleviated their suffering.

“We have never been remembered since 1999, but today we’re happy that water which is life has been given to us.

“In the past, women and children would travel long distances, often as far as the boundary between Ikom and Obubra, to access water, especially during dry seasons but with this project, that has become a thing of the past,” Njan said.

The water project is expected to improve the lives of the people of Osusuokpor community by providing them with access to clean drinking water and enhancing their overall well-being.

The representative assured the people that the community would soon witness significant development in line with the ‘people first’ mantra.

The Secretary of Ikom Council, Edo Owan, advised the community to guard the project jealously and protect it from vandalism.
