I want to assure the public that efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the sit-at-home issue is quashed in all South-Eastern states—- Brigadier General Shuaibu Abubakar

‎Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division, disclosed this during a security briefing in Enugu, who was represented by the Chief of Staff of the Division, Brigadier General Shuaibu Umar Abubakar, assuring that the Sit- at- Home Orders will soon be forgotten.

‎“I want to assure the public that efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the sit-at-home issue is quashed in all South-Eastern states,”

‎“We are not relenting in our efforts to make sure that every Monday morning, the sit-at-home directive does not work. We are very proactive about that.”

‎According to Olatoye, Operation UDO KA has encountered significant security challenges, primarily driven by the activities of IPOB and ESN. The Operation Udo Ka in the South East Zone has complained over the activities of the IPOB, ESN in Imo, Anambra and Enugu.

‎“IPOB and ESN terrorists, over time, have made efforts to distract law-abiding citizens to pledge allegiance to their group,”

‎ “Consequently, Operation UDO KA has embarked on both kinetic and non-kinetic operations to contain their actions, reduce their freedom of movement, disrupt their collaboration, and ultimately create a secure environment conducive for political and socio-economic development.”

‎The JTF stressed that Operation UDO KA has refined its tactics in line with the mission of the Chief of Defence Staff, which emphasizes a people-centric and professional armed forces capable of delivering on its constitutional mandate.

‎”The activities of IPOB and ESN have been most rampant in Imo State, followed closely by Anambra and Enugu,” he stated. “They have resorted to planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along commercial routes, posing a significant threat to lives and economic activity. We are taking concerted measures to mitigate the impact of these attacks.”

‎The military leadership reaffirmed its dedication to sustaining peace-building measures and combating emerging threats. Operation UDO KA, they emphasized, is here to stay until security and normalcy are fully restored in the region.

EFCC boss Olukoyede cautions investors against virtual assets, investment scam

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has urged unsuspecting investors to be wary of virtual assets and investment scams, which he said are on the rise.

The chairman gave the warning during a public lecture marking the African Union Anti-Corruption Day on June 11, 2025, themed: “Understanding Virtual Assets and Investment Scam.”

Olukoyede, who was represented by the Uyo Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Johnson Oshodi, regretted that the investing public inadvertently aids fraudulent practices through lack of due diligence on schemes advertised to them.

Olukoyede insisted that no investment scam can succeed without the negligence of investors.

He observed that virtual and investment scams have the potential to outpace money laundering on the continent, given the way they are gaining prominence.

“In simplified language, virtual assets are digital representations of monetary values which operate on blockchain and which can be traded, exchanged, [and] transferred for payment or investment purposes. They are cryptocurrencies, digital tokens operating on ledger technology.

“It is important to clearly state that virtual assets are not fundamentally criminal. It is when they are wrongfully or fraudulently used that they become criminal. Technology is moving at a supersonic speed around the world.

“Fraudsters are exploiting vulnerabilities of desperate investors to defraud them through various dishonest schemes. Every exploitation of investors in any guise is considered a fraudulent act. Ponzi schemes rank as one of the most pervasive of such acts.

“Lessons derivable from the CBEX situation are very clear: the investing public inadvertently aids fraudulent practices through lack of due diligence on schemes advertised to them. Another lesson is that investors hardly send suspicious transaction reports to the EFCC until they are defrauded. We must understand that no investment scam can succeed without the negligence of investors.”

The Chairman, however, assured of the commission’s readiness to engage every stakeholder in its preventive and investigative activities, adding that virtual assets and investment fraud, like other fraudulent activities, remain preventable with the escape route being adequate knowledge and understanding of the issues involved.

The keynote lecturer at the event, ACE II Emeka Ukpai, stated that the window of ignorance which fraudulent investment operators are opening to defraud innocent members of the public should be closed.

Constitution amendment won’t solve Nigeria’s problem – Ozekhome

Published

Constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, says constitution amendment will not be able to tackle Nigeria’s foundational problems.
Ozekhome, who said this on Friday, when he appeared on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television, described the document as a curse to national development.

The senior lawyer emphasized that only a brand-new, people-oriented constitution can rescue Nigeria from its political, economic, and security crises.

“What we need is a brand-new constitution that is people-driven. You can’t amend a bad document. A document that is already afflicted with an ailment cannot be amended.

“If you have a problem in your house — the building is cracking — how do you solve it? Some people say, ‘Let’s amend the present constitution.’ Amendment, one million times, cannot solve the problem,” he said.

According to him, the current constitution, handed down by the military in 1999, was not created by the people and has continued to promote over-centralisation of power in Abuja, crippling regional growth and autonomy.

The legal luminary faulted the existing presidential system modelled after the United States, calling it too costly and unsustainable.

He, therefore, called for a return to the parliamentary system practised before 1966, with regional governments controlling their resources and security.
