IMO ASSEMBLY COMMENDS GOVERNOR UZODIMMA FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF IMO STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE, INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY —– NAMES HIM MOST EDUCATION FRIENDLY GOVERNOR IN NIGERIA
For his selfless desire to reposition the Education sector in Imo State, including building a knowledge driven economy and establishing new Tertiary Institutions, and having them approved by the National Universities Commission, (NUC), like the Imo State University Of Science, Innovation And Technology, Omuma, the Imo State House Of Assembly has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The House made the commendation during its plenary on Thursday, 06/11/2025, following a Motion moved by the Chief Whip and Member Representing Oru-East State Constituency, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri and Seconded by Hon Chisom Ojukwu, Member Representing Nkwerre State Constituency.
Presenting the Motion, Hon Nwaneri commended the State Governor for improving the Education system in the state, by not only making provision of basic education infrastructure and other facilities, but going ahead to establish new Tertiary Institutions, of which one of them is the Imo State University Of Science, Innovation And Technology, in Omuma, Oru-East Local Government Area.
Hon Chigozie Nwaneri further explained that with the establishment of the University, sons and daughters of the State who are in search of University Admissions, would have a better and secure future, as a University is now by their doorstep. In his words, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, who is also the House Committee Chairman On Works And Public Accounts said, *”Education is the best legacy any Government will use to secure the future of its teaming children, as well as the fulcrum of children’s foundation in life. With the establishment of this new Tertiary Institution in Omuma, Oru-East, which has gotten the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), the academic horizon of the State will broaden and Imo State will be a Hub of scientific innovations and technological advancements, within and outside the country. The new University of Science, Innovation And Technology in Omuma is strategically positioned to push Imo State to the Pinnacle of Science, Innovation And Technology, as it would engender opportunities for research, training and development for use globally. Thanks to Governor Hope Uzodimma for demonstrating that he is an Education Friendly Governor”.*

The Motion received overwhelming support, as the following Honourable Members spoke in unison and praised Governor Uzodimma for this landmark achievement in education :

Following extensive debate in support of the Motion, the Speaker, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Honourable Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, who presided, put it to vote and it was unanimously adopted. Thereafter, he Ruled as follows :
* Be It Resolved By This Honourable House To Congratulate His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor Of Imo State, On This Well Deserved Approval And Recognition By The National Universities Commission (NUC).
* Be It Also Resolved By This Honourable House To Name His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor Of Imo State, As The Most Education Friendly Governor In Nigeria.
The Clerk was directed to communicate the Resolution of the House to His Excellency the Governor.

Dangote to Uzodimma: Just show me where to invest

The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has assured Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State that his group will be one of the biggest investors in the state.
Dangote gave the assurance at the opening session of the Imo Economic Summit 2025 in Owerri on Thursday.
The renowned Africa’s industrialist urged Uzodimma to indicate his preferred area of investment and forget the rest.
Dangote described the Imo governor as a personal friend of decades and commended him for providing enabling environment for investment.
“We will be one of your biggest investors in Imo. So, please tell me the area to invest and we will invest”, Dangote declared.
He called on entrepreneurs to always invest at home, adding that foreigners cannot drive the economy of any nation more than the nationals.
“What attracts foreign investors is a domestic investor. Africa has about 30 percent of the world’s minerals. We are blessed,” he submitted.
Dangote reiterated that his refinery was set to launch 1.4 million barrels per day capacity, the highest for any single refinery in the world.

President Tinubu Swears In Gen. Christopher Musa As Minister of Defence
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, swore in General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd) as Minister of Defence at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
General Musa’s appointment follows the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar on Monday, December 1, 2025. His nomination was announced the following day and transmitted to the Senate, where it received expedited screening and confirmation.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, General Musa was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army in 1991 and had a distinguished military career. He was appointed Chief of Defence Staff by President Tinubu in 2023 and retired in October 2025.
As Chief of Defence Staff, he championed inter-service security collaboration.
With his swearing-in, the new Defence Minister is expected to immediately assume duties as the Tinubu administration seeks to consolidate recent security gains and fast-track reforms aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability nationwide.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Also in attendance were the spouse of the new Minister, Mrs Lilian Oghogho Musa; Chief of Defense Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah; and Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs (rtd).
