The Imo State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into a viral video circulating on social media, which alleged that a hotel located in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area, is being used as a den for kidnapping and organ harvesting.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, ordered the probe following public concern over the disturbing video, which featured footage of the said hotel and the photograph of its owner, accusing him of involvement in heinous criminal activities. In response, the police chief directed that the hotel owner, identified as Mr. Allwell Onyedikachi Mmaduabuchi of H&C Hotel, Irete, be invited for questioning.
The police have also launched efforts to trace and identify the individual who recorded and circulated the video, in order to obtain verifiable evidence that could substantiate the claims. According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, both parties will assist in clarifying the authenticity of the allegations through the ongoing inquiry.
The viral video, which surfaced early Friday morning, caused panic among residents and visitors, warning unsuspecting guests to avoid the facility and other hotels allegedly linked to similar activities. However, the police have cautioned against spreading unverified information that could incite fear or damage reputations.
In an official statement, DSP Okoye reaffirmed that the command is handling the matter with “utmost attention,” assuring that all investigative measures are being pursued diligently. He emphasized that the findings of the investigation would be made public as soon as the process is concluded.
“The Imo State Police Command remains committed to transparency, justice, and upholding the rule of law,” the statement read. “Residents are advised to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers as the investigation unfolds.”
CP Danjuma further reiterated the force’s resolve to protect lives and property while maintaining public confidence in the state’s security architecture. He also urged citizens to rely on verified police communications rather than social media speculation.
Meanwhile, in a related development, 182 newly trained police constables recently resumed duty at the Imo State Command after completing their basic training at the Police Training School, Nekede. The officers were received by CP Aboki Danjuma on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, who charged them to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and community-oriented service in the discharge of their duties.
The Imo State Police Command assured the public that it will continue to uphold justice without fear or favour, and that no individual will be unjustly accused or shielded in the ongoing investigation.
