Kansas City Chiefs cancel practice after lineman goes into cardiac arrest

Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs canceled team practice Thursday after a player had a medical emergency, according to multiple reports.

The player, backup defensive end B.J. Thompson, had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest, per multiple reports. Thompson was transported by ambulance to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Practice and media availability for the day have been postponed until Friday, per The Athletic.

Thompson was drafted in the fifth round by the Chiefs last year, and is entering his second year in the NFL. He played one game last season.

The Chiefs finish OTA workouts this week, with mandatory minicamp starting on June 11. Official training camp begins in July.

NPFL: Plateau United appoints new head coach, sporting director

Oluwasola Adegun has been appointed new head coach of the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, club, Plateau United, Ekwutosblog reports.

 

The Jos club in a statement released on Saturday, also confirmed the appointment of Gideon Izang as their new sporting director.

The appointment of the duo are with immediate effect.

Adegun left his role as head coach of Nigeria National League outfit, NNL, Sporting Lagos to join the former NPFL champions.

Plateau United are reportedly in talks with Kabiru Dogo for the role of technical adviser.

The club finished in seventh position in the NPFL last season.

The Plateau State government, who is the owner of the team, has resolved to reposition the club
towards a more professional and goal driven football institution.

President Federation Cup: Rivers Angels beat Nasarawa Amazons to retain women’s title

Holders Rivers Angels retained the President Federation Cup women’s title after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Nasarawa Amazons in the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.

The Jewel of Rivers trailed 2-0 at the break but rallied to win the trophy for the 10th time.

Olusola Shobowale gave Nasarawa Amazons the lead after seven minutes following poor defending inside the Rivers Angels box.

Shobowale doubled the advantage for Chris Danjuma’s side 10 minutes later.

Rivers Angels fought back in the second half with Taiwo Ajibade reducing the deficit three minutes before the hour mark.

Taiwo Afolabi restored parity for the defending champions in the 62nd minute.

The game went straight into penalties after 90 minutes of thrilling action.

Rivers Angels converted four kicks, while Nasarawa United put in two.

Club World Cup 2025: Six Round of 16 fixtures confirmed

At least six Round of 16 fixtures at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup have now been confirmed.

Inter Milan finished top of Group E, thanks to a 2-0 victory over 10-man River Plate.

Late goals from Francesco Pio Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni sealed the win for the Serie A side, who will face Fluminense in the next round.

Monterrey, who are Group E runners-up, will play Borussia Dortmund for a place in the quarter-final.

Benfica will take on Chelsea in another last-16 game on Saturday, while Palmeiras will go head-to-head with Botafogo in an all-Brazilian affair.

On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain will square up against Inter Miami, in what has been dubbed the Lionel Messi Derby. Flamengo play Bayern Munich.

There are two more Round of 16 match-ups yet to be determined.
