Majority Leader did not break my head with bottle – Abia Assembly member Akachukwu
A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, has denied an online report which claimed that the Majority Leader of the House, Uchenna Okoro Kalu, broke his (Akachukwu’s) head with a bottle of beer.
The story, which has been circulating on social media, alleged that Akachukwu, who is the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, was attacked by his colleague over a money-sharing formula.
The report also claimed that the money came from the executive arm of the state government in appreciation for the passage of the Abia State Supplementary Budget, 2025.
However, the lawmaker, who represents Aba Central in the Abia Parliament, has dismissed the report, insisting that no such incident occurred.
A message signed by Akachukwu read in part:
“My attention has been drawn to a mischievous and malicious report circulating on social media with the sensational headline: ‘Abia Assembly Majority Leader Smashes Beer Bottle on Colleague’s Head During Fight Over Governor Otti’s Cash Gift.’
“In the said report, I, Hon. Ucheonye, Member representing Aba Central State Constituency, was falsely alleged to have been attacked by my brother and colleague, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, the Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, who purportedly struck my head with a beer bottle — an allegation that is not only ridiculous but completely unfounded,” he said.
The lawmaker, who described the publication as false, malicious, and the handiwork of desperate mischief-makers, said those behind the report were out to tarnish the image of the Abia State House of Assembly and sow seeds of discord.
“There was no such incident, and at no time did any form of altercation — verbal or physical — occur between myself and the Majority Leader,” he stated.
