Manchester City will start their Premier League title defence with an away match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 18, as announced by the Premier League on Tuesday.

Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, will have an intriguing start to his tenure facing a team he knows well from assisting Pep Guardiola during City’s treble-winning season and coaching their youth team.

The Premier League season will commence with FA Cup winners Manchester United hosting Fulham on August 16.

Arsenal, last season’s league runners-up, will begin their campaign at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.

Other notable opening fixtures include Championship winners Leicester City taking on Tottenham Hotspur at home and Newcastle United facing off against play-off winners Southampton.

Ipswich Town, making a return to the Premier League after a 22-year absence following consecutive promotions, will host Liverpool in an early kick-off on August 17.

This season will start in mid-August without a mid-season break, allowing for an extended off-season.

EPL: Sign Osimhen instead of Gyokeres – Ferdinand advises Man United

Rio Ferdinand

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has advised his former club to sign Victor Osimhen instead of Viktor Gyokeres.

The Red Devils are in search of more firepower upfront after an underwhelming campaign.

The duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to deliver the goods, with United finishing in a disappointing 15th position on the table.

Ruben Amorim’s side also lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Gyokeres, who had an outstanding campaign for Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The forward scored 39 goals and registered eight assists to help Sporting Lisbon clinch the Portuguese League title.

Despite his impressive form in front of goal, Ferdinand believed Osimhen would be a better fit for his old club.

“I think Gyokeres, everyone’s talking about him. Again, I think if I’m looking at the market now and I had to pick him or Osimhen, I’d probably pick Osimhen because of that experience,” the former England international told the Mirror.
