A Toyota Mazda bus with registration number BKN 332 XB (Lagos), loaded with planks, has collided with a petroleum tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

The bus and the petroleum tanker caught fire as a result of the collision.

Ekwutosblog gathered that the incident occurred along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.

It was learnt that the bus hit the tanker, which was parked along the road due to a mechanical fault, from the rear.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Akinyinka, in a statement made available to Ekwutosblog on Sunday, noted that both vehicles were completely burnt.

He said that men of the agency were immediately mobilized to the scene of the incident.

He added that no casualties were recorded.

He said, “The unfortunate incident was reported at exactly 16:36 hrs on Saturday, 8th March 2025.

“The Agency’s personnel, led by ACFS Oyedeji, were promptly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, we found a petrol trailer tanker with registration number GMB 174 JB (GOMBE), loaded with 45,000 litres of PMS, and a Toyota Mazda Bus with registration number BKN 332 XB (LAGOS), loaded with planks, both engulfed in fire.

“We swiftly took action by applying a chemical foam compound, and other necessary precautionary measures were taken to avoid an explosion. The fire was completely extinguished after an hour of intense firefighting operations.

“The fire affected both the petrol tanker and the bus. No casualties were recorded, but the vehicles were burnt.

“Our investigation revealed that the trailer tanker was parked by the roadside due to mechanical faults, while the overspeeding bus hit it from the rear, causing the fire.”
