Nigerian Army Dismisses Two Soldiers For Alleged Theft At Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian Army has announced the dismissal of two soldiers following their involvement in the theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos. The incident, which took place on April 14, 2024, implicated Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, who were found guilty of abandoning their posts and unauthorized possession of materials.

In a statement released on April 22, 2024, by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the army detailed the results of a rigorous investigation conducted in collaboration with the Dangote Refinery management. The investigation led to the soldiers being charged with failure to perform military duties and other civil offences under the Armed Forces Act.

The trial, which was conducted summarily in accordance with military laws, presented clear evidence against the accused, leading to their convictions. In line with its commitment to maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline, the Nigerian Army has taken swift action by dismissing the soldiers from service and handing them over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.
This move reinforces the Army’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and criminality within its ranks. Major General Nwachukwu reaffirmed the Army’s dedication to upholding integrity, discipline, and accountability, emphasizing the institution’s role in safeguarding national security and promoting peace and stability.

EID-EL-FITR: IGP DISU FELICITATES MUSLIM FAITHFUL, ORDERS NATIONWIDE DEPLOYMENT OF TACTICAL ASSETS

​The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has extended warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

​In furtherance of his commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment during the festive period, the Inspector-General has directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory to implement robust security arrangements.
​Operational measures include:
​Strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives.

​Deployment of the Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and critical infrastructure.
​Increased presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centers, and other public spaces to ensure peaceful, hitch-free celebrations.

​The IGP has also ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties. These actions are aimed at proactively deterring criminal activities and ensuring a swift response to any emerging threats.

​IGP Disu calls on members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following emergency lines:
