Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) tells governors: Workers will not accept being treated as beggars over minimum wage
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) tells governors: Workers will not accept being treated as beggars over minimum wage
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has asserted that Nigerian workers will not be relegated to begging for fair wages in the country. The NLC emphasized that state governors cannot unilaterally determine minimum wages, labeling such actions as dictatorial.
According to Benson Upah, the Head of Information and Public Affairs at NLC, the national minimum wage is a collective agreement aimed at ensuring a decent standard of living for all workers, distinct from state-specific pay structures reflecting varying financial capacities.
Upah stressed the importance of upholding a national wage floor to prevent exploitation and inequality among workers nationwide.
