NYSC Corp Members’ New Minimum Wage

No Official Confirmation: There is no official confirmation from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that corps members will earn N70,000 per month as the new minimum wage.

Ongoing Negotiations: The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Y.D Ahmed, stated that corps members may benefit from the new minimum wage negotiations, but no agreement has been reached yet.

Proposed Minimum Wage: The tripartite committee suggested N62,000, governors proposed N57,000, while organized labor demanded N250,000, but the Federal Government has not finalized the new minimum wage.

Current Allowance: NYSC members currently receive a monthly allowance of N33,000.

Future Increase: The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, previously stated that the allowance of corps members would be increased immediately after the Federal Government implements the new minimum wage.

FG Approves Nine New Private Universities

The Federal Government has approved nine new private universities, including Tazkiyah University (Kaduna), Leadership University (Abuja), Jimoh Babalola University (Kwara), Bridget University (Imo), Greenland University (Jigawa), JEFAP University (Niger), Azione Verde University (Imo), Unique Open University (Lagos), and American Open University (Ogun).

Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the approvals clear a backlog of applications, some pending for over six years, and follow stricter guidelines. A moratorium is now in place on new applications that do not meet the updated standards.

NYSC member found dead in Bauchi lodge

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been found dead in his lodge at Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama shared the news in a post on X on Monday.

He said the incident happened on Sunday morning.

The deceased identified as Mr. Nwokedi Chukwu Ebuka Gerald, 28, with state code number BA/25A/2069, was discovered by fellow Christian corps members while they were preparing for Sunday service.

Police said they received a report around 9:20 a.m. and visited the scene, after which the body was taken to the General Hospital in Dambam.

“A medical doctor confirmed him dead.His remains have since been moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for preservation.

“There were no signs of violence on the body, and no foul play is suspected. Investigation is ongoing,” Makama added.

A fashion designer claimed a world record by creating a show-stopping robe with 50-metre sleeves.

The longest sleeves on a garment is 51.20 metres (167.97 ft) and was achieved by Samuel Chinecherem Ezeh (Nigeria) in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria.

That’s longer than the Statue of Liberty is high and longer than an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Samuel made this attempt to create a landmark piece in the field of fashion.

Samuel, 27, who works as a fashion designer and tailor while studying at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, had to overcome a lot to make the garment.
