One dies, others injured as truck tumbles in Ogun

A 28-year old man named Sulaimon Mustapha has been confirmed dead in a lone crash that occurred at Ido Awele along Lisa, Ogun State.

The accident involved a MAN diesel truck registered as LSR 977 XW and driven by one Dapo Ajala.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirming the incident to Ekwutosblog on Wednesday, said it happened at about 11:45 am on Monday.

Odutola stated that the truck fully loaded with sharp sand from Lisa to Itoki, had three loaders identified as Iliasu Adamu, 35, Iliasu Balla, 32, and the deceased, Sulaimon Mustapha, onboard.

She explained that while descending a hill at Odo Awela, the driver lost control of the truck, causing it to tumble and fall on the loaders.

Ekwutosblog learnt that the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

 

Odutola said: “On the 24th of February, 2025, a tragic fatal accident occurred at Ido Awele along Lisa at about 11:45hrs.

“A MAN Diesel Truck with registration number LSR 977 XW, driven by one Dapo Muyideen Ajala ‘m’, whose address remains unknown, was involved in the crash

“The driver was transporting a full load of sharp sand from Lisa to Itoki with three loaders onboard: Iliasu Adamu ‘m’, 35 years, Iliasu Balla ‘m’, 32 years and Sulaimon Mustapha ‘m’, 28 years

“All three loaders who work at Itoki Tipper Garage are residents of the same address.”

Odutola noted that the victims who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Faith Hospital, Ijoko, for emergency treatment and Mustapha was later confirmed dead.

She added that his remains were released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the driver, who is currently at large.

The Command however, urged all motorists to exercise caution, especially on hilly terrain, and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition to prevent such unfortunate incidents.

​Operational measures include:
​Strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives.

​Deployment of the Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and critical infrastructure.
​Increased presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centers, and other public spaces to ensure peaceful, hitch-free celebrations.

​The IGP has also ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties. These actions are aimed at proactively deterring criminal activities and ensuring a swift response to any emerging threats.

​IGP Disu calls on members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following emergency lines:
