Pastor Adeboye: Christian group claims responsibility for arrest of popular TikToker, Seaking

Published

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum, CCYF, has claimed responsibility for the arrest of popular TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, also known as Seaking, for allegedly insulting the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye.

Ekwutosblog reports that Ogunsanwo was picked up by officials of the Nigeria Police in Lagos and moved to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja under DIG Dasuki Galandanchi for alleged cyberbullying.

The content creator had, in a viral video on TikTok, branded Pastor Adeboye as “very stupid and foolish” for subjecting his congregation to a 100-day fast.

According to Adama, targeting such a prominent and respected figure like Pastor Adeboye serves as a stark reminder of the growing menace of cyber harassment and the urgent need to address it before it spirals out of control.

He said, “This act of brazen cyber harassment is not only reprehensible but also strikes at the heart of our cultural norms and values. It undermines the crucial principle of respect for elders that is so deeply embedded in our society and threatens to erode the very foundations of our moral framework.

“The current social media landscape has exposed a disturbing trend among the younger generation, where they are brazenly attacking and insulting respected Christian leaders with impunity, all in the name of content creation. This phenomenon of moral degeneration is now endemic in our society, reaching unprecedented levels that challenge the very fabric of our values.

“Christian leaders and all elders in our society deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, as they represent the wisdom, experience, and cultural legacy of our nation. The erosion of this fundamental principle of respect for elders is a worrisome development that must be addressed with urgency.

“This is to inform the general public that the said Ogunsanwo Olumide John has been arrested and will be charged to court for his unprovoked, distasteful, and disrespectful insult directed at the revered Christian leader, Papa E.A. Adeboye, on the social media platform TikTok.

“The Concerned Christian Youth Forum is behind his arrest. Let me reiterate that as concerned Christian youths, we will no longer fold our hands and watch such reprehensible behaviors, especially those targeting highly esteemed and prominent figures like genuine leaders of the Christian faith. Such attacks will no longer be tolerated or condoned in our nation.

“Ogunsanwo Olumide John’s insult constituted a grave violation of the Nigerian cybercrime law, specifically Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2024, as amended, which criminalizes cyber harassment, making it punishable by imprisonment.”

Also reacting, former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confirmed that Ogunsanwo has been arrested and is in police custody.

Catholic Bishops knock Nigerian Govt over Benue killings

Following the rampant killings in Benue State and other parts of the country, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has accused both the Federal and the Benue State governments of failing in their primary responsibility to protect lives and ensure public safety.

In a statement signed by Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the CBCN and Archbishop of Owerri, the bishops expressed ‘heavy hearts and deep anguish’ over what they described as ‘utterly barbaric’ attacks on defenceless communities in Benue.

According to the statement, the cold-blooded attacks on defenceless communities where countless have been slaughtered, homes destroyed, and families left in anguish, are an affront to God, a stain on our shared humanity, and a terrifying reminder of the utter breakdown of security in our land.

It said no matter how well a government pays salaries or builds roads, its failure to protect human lives renders its achievements hollow, adding that the sanctity of human life is supreme.

The group called for immediate and decisive action from both state and federal authorities to restore peace, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure justice for victims.

According to the bishops, “Any government that fails to make the safety and protection of its citizens and their property its foremost priority abdicates its fundamental responsibility and moral legitimacy.”
