PRESIDENT TINUBU’S GOODWILL MESSAGE TO GENERAL TY DANJUMA ON HIS 88TH BIRTHDAY
General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), who turns 88th today, is a distinguished statesman, soldier, and gentleman who, in peacetime and war, served our country with undivided loyalty.
This is a moment that invites reflection on a remarkable life of service and on the many seasons he has walked through with courage and conviction.
General Danjuma’s story is tied to our country’s story. He served Nigeria at a time when our young nation faced severe trials. He stood firm when unity was fragile, and the path ahead was uncertain. His sense of duty helped steady the country, and his record of service remains a reference point for discipline and honour.
Beyond his years in uniform, he has continued to shape the national conversation through wise counsel and personal example. Any time he speaks on national issues, he does so with unmistakable clarity and an unwavering belief in Nigeria. Many leaders, including me, have drawn strength from General Danjuma’s willingness to offer guidance whenever the moment required a steady voice.
His commitment to humanity has also left a lasting mark. Through the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation, he opened doors for countless families in need of support and dignity. The work he started through the foundation has grown into one of the most respected philanthropic institutions on the continent. Its impact will remain long after all of us have left the stage.
At eighty-eight, he stands as an elder whose life has helped shape the direction of our nation. He has lived with purpose and served with courage – essential qualities that define the finest citizens of our republic.
As General Danjuma celebrates this birthday, I thank Almighty God for the grace that has carried him through the years. I pray that He continues to bless him with health, strength and peace. May the years ahead bring greater fulfilment and the quiet satisfaction of knowing that his life has touched many across Nigeria.

Abuja–Kaduna train service temporarily disrupted
The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has announced temporary disruption of Abuja–Kaduna train service, appealing to passengers to remain patient.
The Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa, made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday, after public concerns over the reduced frequency of train services on the corridor.
Opeifa stated that NRC reviewed a recent article by veteran journalist Muhammad Iskeel Abdullahi published on the Journalists for Development platform, and appreciated the concerns raised as genuine and patriotic.
The Managing-Director described the Abuja–Kaduna corridor as a flagship service under Nigeria’s railway modernisation programme, noting that even minimal disruptions are widely felt by the public.
The NRC acknowledged the discomfort experienced by commuters, attributing the reduced services to damage sustained by its Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) rolling stock during an incident on August 26. It expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.
According to Opeifa, the service reduction was not due to neglect, but to two major setbacks: the March 2022 terrorist attack on the rail line, which prompted a comprehensive overhaul of safety procedures and enhanced collaboration with security agencies, and a recent derailment that damaged several coaches and reduced the number of operational rolling stock.
“The repairs and refurbishment are ongoing, while arrangements are being made to deploy additional coaches to restore normal service frequency.
“We assure passengers that the current challenges represent a phase of recovery and rebuilding rather than a decline in commitment.
“The Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has continued to support efforts to strengthen rail infrastructure nationwide, with the Minister of Transport working closely with the Corporation to accelerate full restoration,” Opeifa said.

Nigerian Air Force C-130: Belgium military aircraft heads to Burkina Faso
Belgium Air Force Airbus 400M Atlas cargo aircraft is reportedly heading to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Brant Philip, a Sahel-region security analyst known for tracking military movements across West Africa, described the development as “unexpected”.
In a post on X, Philip wrote that the Belgium military aircraft was headed to the location where the Nigerian Air Force C-130 cargo plane is currently stationed.
He had earlier stated that an unidentified aircraft from Bamako, Mali, took off a few hours ago towards the north of the country before heading south towards Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
He wrote: “Belgium Air Force Airbus 400M Atlas cargo aircraft is unexpectedly landing in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
“An unidentified aircraft from Bamako, Mali, took off a few hours ago towards the north of the country before heading south towards Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, where the Nigerian Air Force C-130 cargo plane is currently stationed, possible Malian delegation en route”.
Recall that since Monday night at least 11 Nigerian soldiers were being currently held by the Military regime in Bobo-Dioulasso in the South West of Burkina Faso.
They were detained after their aircraft conducted an emergency landing while “violating AES airspace.”
Ekwutosblog reported that a group of military officers had on December 7 announced the overthrow of the Benin Republic government.
However, the Benin Republic presidency said the coup was quashed and that President Patrice Talon was safe.

Nigerian government takes fresh action over detention of soldiers, seizure of aircraft in Burkina Faso
The discussions involve senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defence Headquarters and ECOWAS desks.
The incident happened after the aircraft, which left Lagos for Portugal, developed a technical problem mid-flight and requested the nearest safe airport.
Burkina Faso’s aviation officials granted clearance, and the crew landed in Bobo-Dioulasso.
They were received calmly, treated with respect, and engineers worked through the night to fix the fault.
Officials in Burkina Faso had already approved the aircraft’s departure after repairs when a sudden political directive halted the process.
Local officers were reportedly surprised by the order because the crew had followed all international emergency procedures under ICAO rules, which allow any aircraft in distress to enter the closest safe airspace without delay.
Burkina Faso’s reversal has now created a diplomatic issue.
Sources in Ouagadougou said some aviation and military officials are uncomfortable with the political decision, insisting there was no tension during the emergency landing.
According to diplomatic insiders, the problem goes beyond aviation.
Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger now operate under the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) after leaving ECOWAS.
Their withdrawal has created tension with ECOWAS-aligned countries, especially Nigeria.
The detention of the aircraft is believed to be tied to growing political grievances within the Sahel bloc.
Diplomats familiar with the matter said hardliners in Burkina Faso remain unhappy about the recently foiled coup attempt in Benin Republic.
Members of the AES had seen Benin as a possible new entrant into their alliance.
The failed coup, supported by external intelligence including cooperation with Nigeria, disrupted that plan and angered some figures within the Sahel group.
This lingering frustration reportedly played a role in the sudden order to hold the Nigerian aircraft after a routine emergency landing.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama also linked the detention to political resentment, describing the action as a response to Nigeria’s role in stopping the Benin coup.
He said that the crew followed every required emergency step, including declaring distress and requesting the closest runway.
