“””SHE IS NOT A MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE AND WAS NOT INVITED TO THE BUDGET DEFENCE…. SHE AS USUAL IGNORANTLY CLAIMED THAT BEING FROM NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA, SHE OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN A MEMBER.” — SENATE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN SENATOR ZAM DENIES SENATOR NATASHA. .. AS HER NUMEROUS FIGHT WITH SENATE COLLEAGUES CONTINUES IN THE RED CHAMBERS….

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Titus Zam, has dismissed claims by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that she is a member of the committee, insisting that official records do not list her among its members. Zam, who represents Benue North-West in the Senate, made the clarification in Abuja while responding to allegations that the Kogi Central lawmaker’s name was deliberately omitted from the committee’s attendance register during a recent budget defence session.
According to him, the senator was neither appointed to the committee nor invited to participate in its proceedings. He explained that committee composition follows established Senate procedures designed to reflect federal character, noting that not all lawmakers from a particular geopolitical zone automatically become members of development commission panels. He further identified Isah Jibrin as the committee’s vice-chairman and Sunday Karimi as a serving member from Kogi State, adding that other north-central lawmakers, including Pam Mwadkon, are also not part of the NCDC committee.
Zam stated that the disagreement arose after the budget defence meeting had concluded, when Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly visited his office to protest her exclusion.
He maintained that any grievances regarding committee appointments should be directed to the Senate Committee on Selection, which is responsible for assigning memberships.
The development has drawn attention within legislative circles, highlighting internal procedural disputes over committee representation in the upper chamber.

Senate Passes Electoral Act Amendment Bill; watch video of how each Senator voted on e-transmission of election results
The Nigerian Senate today February 17 passed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026.
Before the passage, there was a rowdy session as the upper chamber resumed proceedings with a demand for division over Clause 60 raised by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (ADC/Abia South).
Rising under Order 72(1), Abaribe called for a division on Clause 60(3), specifically concerning the provision that if electronic transmission of results fails, Form EC8A should not serve as the sole basis, calling for the removal of the proviso that allows for manual transmission of results in the event of network failure.
During the division, Akpabio directed senators who supported the caveat to stand. He then asked those opposed to the caveat to rise.
Fifteen opposition senators stood to oppose the caveat that should electronic transmission of results fail, the form EC8A should serve as an alternative for the transmission of results.
When the votes were counted, the Senate President announced that 15 senators were not in support of the proviso, while 55 senators voted in support of it.

Tinubu to visit Southsouth, Southeast May – Presidency
The Presidency has revealed that President Bola Tinubu would visit the South-South and South-Eastern parts of the country on the 12th of May, 2026.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made this revelation on Monday after inspecting the Aba-Port Harcourt Motorway Abia State section and Eleme Axis of the East-West road in Rivers.
According to him, the visit would be to inaugurate the projects that would be completed in April.
Umahi further stated that the federal government has intensified work on key highway projects across the South-South, with several strategic corridors slated for commissioning by President Tinubu during his planned visit to the regions in May.
The project, he said includes the 43-kilometre dualization of the Aba–Port Harcourt highway, a critical economic artery linking Abia and Rivers states, which officials say will be substantially ready by April.
“They are still committed to any section of the road when they finish for twelve months. If it fails, it’s their business; it’s their problem; they have to repay it.
“But so far, I am happy with their work, and I want them to finish by April so that we can turn it in for Mr President to commission by 12th of May when he visits Southeast and South South,” he said.
