Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for counter-terrorism operations in Kaduna State have neutralized some terrorists and thwarted the activities of violent extremists and the abduction of farmers in the Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, which targeted the terrorists’ stronghold in Basurfe village, southwest of Kidandan, was conducted after intelligence confirmation that the terrorists were using the village as their administrative refuge.

This was disclosed in a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Friday.

As troops approached the village, they were met with an ambush but the troops with tactical prowess, fought their way through, forcing the insurgents to scatter in various directions.

According to the statement, this operation underscores the troops’ commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the restoration of peace and stability in Kaduna State and the nation at large.

The statement read, “Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for counter-terrorism operations in Kaduna State in a daring response to actionable intelligence have neutralized some terrorists and thwarted the activities of violent extremists and abduction of farmers in Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

“In the heat of the confrontation, troops spotted some of the terrorists attempting to escape the area on motorbikes and effectively engaged them, neutralizing two terrorists. The valiant troops also captured two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and a motorbike.

“The operation further gained momentum as the troops discovered the insurgents’ administrative refuge, situated on a strategic high ground. The troops launched a ferocious onslaught and dislodged the enclave leading to the seizure of a Semi-Automatic Pump-action rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two Baofeng communication radio sets and a bag containing medical supplies, tobacco hand gloves and face masks.

“The area was also identified as a medical centre for treatment of wounded terrorists.”

Angry Benue youths pull down APC flags, accuse APC govt of campaigning amid state tragedy

Published

Youths in Benue State have pulled down the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag while President Tinubu was in town.

The President had on Monday announced plans to shelve official Kaduna visit for Benue following the bloodbath at Yelwata and Daudu communities in Guma local government areas of Benue state.

The visit comes after President Tinubu received backlash for not visiting the state despite the merciless killings, and wiping away of entire families in parts of the state.

According to videos in circulation, some youths are angry at the APC led administration and were seen removing their flags from those bearing them to welcome the president.

During the protest, they accused the President of campaigning ahead of the 2027 elections, and not in the state to sympathise with the people.

In one of the videos, hundreds of youths were seen chanting “We no go gree,” with passers-by thinking they heard gunshots.

In another video some of the youths shouted “No more APC flags” as they tore it down.

The same user posted another video showing some people running, with gunshots at the background.

A man holding the camera claimed that they were being teargassed.

It would be recalled that earlier on Wednesday, the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse has rejected claims that the killings were as a result of herders/farmers clash.

He told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that, “What we are dealing with here in Benue is a calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits, which has been going on for decades and is worsening every year.

“Wrong diagnosis will always lead to wrong treatment. So, we are dealing with something far more sinister than we think about.

“It’s not learning to live with your neighbours; it is dealing with the war,” he stressed, calling for an end to the killings.

BREAKING: Flood forces closure of Makurdi–Abuja road hours before Tinubu’s visit

Published

Few hours before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Benue State, the Makurdi–Lafia–Abuja road has been rendered impassable due to heavy flooding.

Ekwutosblog observed that intense floodwater has overtaken the highway, leaving motorists and passengers stranded.
The affected route, a major corridor into Makurdi, has forced commuters to either postpone their journeys or seek shelter in safer areas.

The timing of the flood has raised concerns as it coincides with heightened security and logistical movements in preparation for the President’s one-day visit to commiserate with the people of Benue over the recent massacre in Yelewata.
