Nwanosike directly addressed the state governor in a video, stating his intention to remain in office beyond the stipulated date.

He cited an extension of tenure by state lawmakers under the leadership of Martin Amaghule as justification due to the state government’s failure to conduct local government elections.

Nwanosike asserted that he would continue in his role and warned that the people of Ikwerre LG would resist any attempt to remove him from office.

He declared, “Let them come and try to remove me if they dare. The countdown begins—23 more days to go.”
He added, “Who are you to say Martins Amaewhule is not the Rivers House of Assembly Speaker? If Amaewhule says that because the governor of Rivers State failed in his duty to conduct local government elections.
“And that, I, Dr Nwanosike Samuel, whose tenure by the oath of office I took and the certificate of return I was issued when I contested my second tenure election should remain in office. So shall we remain in the office in Rivers State!
“We are sending a message to those who are threatening them to wear their jeans – do like this, don’t do like that. We don’t wear jeans in Ikwere local government. We wear white, we tie wrapper we wear Ogbakata. Come and disobey the law, we will wait for you. The law of Nigeria is the law passed by Martin Amaewhule. If dem born you well, show your face. Thank you.”

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has charged newly appointed officials to approach their duties with diligence, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the people.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of new commissioners and special advisers, the Governor enjoined the appointees to “roll up their sleeves and hit the ground running,” stressing the urgency and importance of their responsibilities.

The governor stated that the new appointees have been called to serve the good people of Kaduna State because they all possess the skills and competences to contribute effectively to the rebuilding and renewing of the state.

Reflecting on his administration’s track record over the past two years, he noted that Kaduna had made significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, and security partnerships despite daunting challenges.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to its development goals, the Governor stated, “We are determined to finish well. You are therefore expected to help push our administration to leave lasting legacies.”

He encouraged teamwork and innovation among the new appointees to think outside the box while keeping the box in view and to always prioritize the interests of Kaduna’s citizens.

Governor Sani also warned against isolated approaches to governance, saying, “We must avoid working in silos. If we operate independently with limited communication or collaboration, success will be hindered.”

Among those sworn in was Barrister Gloria Ibrahim, the newly appointed Commissioner for Youth Development, who expressed both humility and determination in her acceptance speech said, “I am humbled by the privilege to serve as a commissioner for youth development of Kaduna State. I pledge to uphold the trust reposed in me by implementing youth-focused policies that align with the SUSTAIN Agenda of this administration.”

Cross River state House of Assembly has endorsed the suspension of Theresa Ushie, chairman of Bekwara LGA.

During the three months’ suspension, Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Egbung Odama, will serve as the acting Chairman.

Nine out of ten councillors submitted a petition and adopted her suspension for three months.

They accused her of massive allegations, abuse of power, disconnect, stoppage of councillors’ salaries, among other allegations.

A statement by Gill Nsa, chief press secretary to Gov Bassey Otu, confirmed that the councillors brought their concerns to the State Assembly, as well as to the Governor, his deputy, and the State party chairman.

The Councilors had previously attempted to impeach the Chairman three months ago, citing same allegations but the State government intervened.

Governor Otu, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the state chairman of the APC met with the Councilors and resolved that the Bekwara LGA Chairman should be suspended for three months.

Nsa explained that the decision was made in accordance with the due process outlined in Section 14 (3) of the Local Government Law 2025 of the State.

The State Assembly has set up an investigative committee to look into the allegations raised by the councillors.
