We have been unfairly blamed for insecurity in Imo State – IPOB

Published

on

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, says it is being unfairly accused and blamed for insecurity plaguing Imo State, stressing that emerging information has vindicated its position.

This was contained in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful,

The group referred to a viral video in which an individual, allegedly known as “Gentle Yahoo,” claimed involvement in criminal activities in Imo State.

The statement said the individual made allegations about being influenced by certain actors with vested interests.

IPOB stated that the video supports its repeated denials of involvement in the insecurity in the region.

“We, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, once again assert that we are not responsible for the insecurity, kidnappings, or other criminal activities in Imo State.

“The video circulating online, which features a man identifying himself as part of a group previously involved in such activities, suggests attempts were made to implicate IPOB, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, and our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” IPOB said.

The group stressed that it has consistently communicated through official statements and broadcasts that its mission is peaceful and geared toward the advocacy for self-determination.

It also urged the public and media to exercise caution and conduct thorough investigations before attributing blame.

“We expect responsible media and public institutions to critically evaluate such claims and avoid hastily labeling IPOB or ESN in matters of regional insecurity,” the statement added.

IPOB called for transparency and accountability in governance and encouraged residents of Imo State to demand clarity and justice concerning the ongoing insecurity in their communities.

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has re-emphasized the Corps’ strategic role in strengthening the pillars of national security, particularly through its growing involvement in aviation security.

CSC Babawale Afolabi, National Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in a statement, said it described it as one of the most sensitive domains in Nigeria’s security landscape.

According to the statement, Prof. Audi stated this while delivering a keynote address at the Aviation Security Stakeholders’ Engagement held at the Dr. John Ade Abolurin Auditorium, NSCDC National Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja.

It said the Commandant General highlighted the critical link between aviation safety and national stability.

Professor Audi noted that national security is a shared responsibility that requires unwavering synergy among all stakeholders, stressing that the NSCDC, by virtue of its mandate, plays a vital role in securing aviation infrastructure, gathering actionable intelligence, conducting surveillance, and responding to emergencies—functions that directly contribute to the stability and safety of the nation.

“Security is everybody’s business, and aviation security is national security,” the CG asserted. “We must build stronger alliances, standardize our operations, and proactively engage in intelligence-led strategies.”

He urged all stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, security outfits, and aviation partners, to commit to sustained collaboration and information sharing in the face of evolving threats.

The engagement provided a platform to strengthen cooperation and ensure a unified national strategy for the protection of critical assets and public safety across Nigeria’s aviation corridors.

Benue: I rejected N75bn loan offer tied to repeal of anti-open grazing law – Ortom

Former Benue State Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that he rejected a N75 billion loan offer during his administration because it was conditional on repealing the state’s Anti-Open Grazing Law.

Speaking during a media chat in Makurdi on the challenges he faced in office, Ortom said the proposal included a N40 billion interest-free facility intended to clear salary arrears and an additional N35 billion for infrastructure projects.

“I was offered a N40 billion interest-free loan to pay salary arrears, which was a major problem during my tenure, and a N35 billion infrastructure loan for development on one condition: that I should repeal the Anti-Open Grazing Law. But I rejected it,” Ortom stated.

The former governor maintained that the law, enacted in 2017, was critical to safeguarding lives and property against violent attacks by armed herders and therefore could not be compromised.

Ortom emphasized that despite political and financial pressure, he remained committed to implementing the legislation, which he described as a legitimate and necessary response to persistent killings and displacement of farming communities across Benue State.
