The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Addulahi Umar Ganduje, Sunday stated that the task before the Party was the conversion of Abia, Enugu and Anambra to APC controlled States in the Country.
Ganduje who stated this during the APC South East Stakeholder’s Meeting at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, urged APC Party Stakeholders within the region to work in unison, for the overall interest of the Party and eventual takeover of the three remaining States of South East for APC.
He told the people of the South East that the APC as a Party has began the implementation of its blueprint on the de-marginalization of the South East zone, as it will enable the people of the region to benefit maximally from the present administration and gain access to the mainstream of National politics According to him, all hands must be on deck in order for the vicious circle of marginalisation to be broken against all odds.
“For us to takeover Enugu, Anambra and Abia States, we must unite and uphold internal democracy and understand the constitution of our Party. We will soon start electronic registration. We will examine each polling unit to know the one that has registered for APC.
“We urge you (Ebonyi) to continue with this vigor until South East is brought into that political limelight.”
The Executive Governor of Imo State and Chairman, South-East Governor’s Forum, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, who acknowledged that Nigerians were going through difficult times as a result of the economy of the Country, urged them to be patient with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
He enjoined Nigerians, especially the people of the South East not to take laws into their hands by embarking on any form of protest or crisis as the economic policies of the present administration will soon yield dividends. Uzodinma, who is also the leader of APC in the South East alleged that those behind the instigation of crisis and protests in some parts of the Country, were politicians who lost elections in the 2023 general elections in the Country.
“We thank Governor Nwifuru for converting the entire state to a one Party State. God Almighty has given us an opportunity to speak for our people. The cost of living is very high. We need to make our people know that there’s hope. I am not happy that the cost of living is high but the good news is that the policies of the federal government if judiciously implemented will bring prosperity to our people.
“People engineering protests are people who lost elections. We will not let them to incite our people. Nobody should incite us. We can never honour any crisis in Nigeria. We don’t want any crisis and war. I have no regrets for what we have passed through, because it has made us stronger. Ebonyi is a template and they have shown us the way. Abia is next. Don’t eat alone because if you eat alone you die alone.
“I want to thank the National Chairman for the programme to de-marginalize us. The more elections we win, the more things we get better.”
Speaking during the meeting, the Host and Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru stress the need for unity, peace and oneness among Ebonyians, irrespective of Party affiliation.
The Governor, who de-emphasized the issue of crisis, infighting and violence, opined that the presence of peace was a catalyst for the overall development of the State.
“We are committed to the sustainability of democracy, which the Party upholds. All the issues raised will also be resolved. APC is the only political Party in existence in this State. It’s better to resolve by sacrifice other than through fighting and acceptance of the fact that everyone of us is needed and we believe that no one has the monopoly of violence.
“What we want is to make our Party proud by allowing the people decide. What we want is for everybody to be part of us. Those that are against our Party in the Party, will be shown the way out.”

Government of Enugu State has commended the Federal Government for approving the relocation of the Enugu Correctional Centre located at the GRA, saying it is ready to partner with the central government to actualise it soonest.
The assurances were given by the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions in his office at the Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday.
He told the team led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Ogah that the state government had always advocated for the relocation of the facility, which was built in 1915, from the city centre to a more suitable location.
“It is highly commendable that the Federal Government has sanctioned the relocation of Enugu Correctional Center. This is something we have been advocating for. So, I think you have a real partner in the state government, as we have a coincidence of objective. So, we are going to anxiously be waiting to hear from you on how you want us to engage.
“We already have a survey, which we have done and we are more than happy to share the survey of the new location with you and we will take you to that location to see for yourselves,” Mbah stated.
Mbah called for the automation of the justice dispensing system to reduce the congestion of the correctional centres, highlighting the efforts of his administration to automate the justice system.
“On our part, we are not going to relent in the intervention we have made in the entire justice reform system.
“We have now fully automated our court processes and the idea is to ensure that there is speedy dispensation of justice because we also realised that a lot of the inmates we have in the correctional centres are those who are awaiting trial.
“If we can ensure speedy dispensation of justice, then we would also have to adjust these congested correctional centres significantly.
“That is essentially what we are doing with this automation of not just court processes, but also even the court proceedings.
“That is why I said full automation because even the longhand is no longer required in our courts because we now have verbatim reporters. This is a process we had started a year ago.
“We are happy it is now coming to a conclusion stage,” Mbah concluded.
In his remarks, Hon. Ogah commended Governor Mbah on improved security of lives and property in the state, stressing that “people can now drive through Enugu State at any time of the day without any fear.”
He added that the state government’s investment in security technology and effort of the correctional officers and security had ensured there was no jailbreak in Enugu State, and lauded the development strides of the governor, which he said were providing jobs, boosting economic development, and diminishing crimes.
The Committee welcomed the governor’s proactive approach to relocating the correctional centre through the provision of the proposed new site and also sought the support of the government in the area of vehicles for the conveyance of inmates to and fro trial sessions.
