The political battle in Anambra State is heating up as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fired back at Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) over criticism of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Theo Abu Agada, Director of New Media and Strategic Communications of the NDC, accused the Anambra State Government and APGA supporters of being threatened by what he described as Obi’s growing popularity in the state.
The reaction followed a post by Anambra News Media, which accused Obi of working against APGA, the party that produced him as governor, and urged Ndi Anambra not to support him.
The post stated that Obi had, since 2014, been on a mission to weaken APGA and warned that voting for Obi and the NDC would amount to “killing APGA.”
Responding, Agada dismissed the criticism as “cheap blackmail,” arguing that Obi’s opponents were attacking him politically because they could not challenge his record in office.
“It is now clear, even to the blind, that the Anambra State Government is threatened by the growing popularity of our presidential candidate, H.E. Peter Obi, and the NDC in Anambra State and beyond,” Agada said.
He further declared that the NDC would “win big” in Anambra, insisting that neither Soludo nor APGA could stop the party’s momentum.
The NDC strategist also accused Obi’s critics of avoiding substantive debate over his record as governor and instead resorting to political attacks.
The exchange has added another layer of tension to the emerging political contest in Anambra, with APGA supporters seeking to defend the party’s influence in the state while the NDC projects Obi as a major force ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
