2027: ‘Jonathan is the man to restore hope’ — PDP Northern Support Group
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Northern Support Group has endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The group announced the decision in a communiqué issued after its 8th meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, between Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the communiqué jointly signed by the group’s Northern Coordinator, Yusuf Abubakar, and North-West Zonal Secretary, Adamu Narayi, Jonathan remains the best option to restore party unity and national cohesion ahead of 2027.
The coalition, which comprises PDP loyalists and support groups from the 19 northern states, also reaffirmed confidence in the leadership of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, commending his reconciliation efforts within the party.
The group urged Damagum to take disciplinary action against members allegedly involved in anti-party activities, accusing some party leaders of undermining ongoing reconciliation processes and collaborating with the ruling APC.
It maintained that the PDP still enjoys strong grassroots support in the North and called on members to unite and rebuild the party ahead of the next general elections.
The group also dismissed concerns over Jonathan’s eligibility to contest again, insisting the issue had been resolved and should not be used to distract the party.
It pledged continued loyalty to the PDP and expressed confidence that with collective effort, the party could reclaim power at both national and state levels in 2027.

BREAKING: After Controversy, Yerima Finally Sacked
The National and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Kano has nullified the election of Muktar Umar Yerima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The tribunal also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Yerima.
The petitioner, Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenged Yerima’s emergence, claiming he wasn’t qualified.
IgbereTV recalls that Yerima was declared the winner of the House of Representatives election for Tarauni Federal Constituency by INEC.
However, Daily Trust reports that the three-man panel of the tribunal led by Justice I.P. Chima held that Yerima was not qualified because he forged his primary school certificate.
The tribunal had held that Yerima’s defence that he had a change of name in 2022 did not hold water, having been using three (Umar Mukhtar Zakari) names on his international passports since 2009, while his primary school certificate still bears Umar Mukhtar.
It also held that the said primary school, Hausawa Primary School, has disowned the certificate tendered by the sacked lawmaker.
Therefore, it was ruled that the NNPP had no candidate in the election.
