‘No deal collapsed’ – Nigerian Govt breaks silence on forward crude oil sale

The Federal Government has debunked reports suggesting the collapse of a proposed forward crude oil sale involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.

This was as the government stated that no final decision has been made on the matter.

According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, on Wednesday in Abuja, the government said it was aware of recent media speculation surrounding the deal, stressing that such commentary is premature and inaccurate.

“While market speculation is not uncommon in the context of ongoing economic reforms and transactions, no final decision has been announced by the Government.

“Commentary suggesting the collapse of any such initiative is unfounded,” the statement read.

The statement maintained that the forward sale of crude oil-an arrangement often used to secure financing by pledging future oil production-remains under consideration as part of a broader strategy to stabilise Nigeria’s economy.

“The government remains focused on deploying a range of innovative, transparent, and fiscally responsible financing strategies to optimise Nigeria’s oil assets, improve external liquidity, and strengthen macroeconomic stability,” Manga said.

The Federal Government expresssed its commitment to deploying innovative, transparent, and fiscally responsible financing strategies to optimize Nigeria’s oil assets, improve external liquidity, and strengthen macroeconomic stability.

The Finance Ministry also reassured stakeholders that any decisions regarding forward crude oil sales will be made with careful consideration and transparency.

The US State Department had issued a $6 million bounty on the terror leader earlier.

The leader of a heinous Islamist terror group, al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), has called for President Donald Trump and scores of his top advisers to be assassinated as revenge for their pro-Israel stances, a video published on X and seen by Ekwutosblog has shown.

Simon Ateba, Chief White House Correspondent and Founder of “The Daily Letter”, posted the video on his X handle on Tuesday.

“We call on all Muslims in America and it does not matter whether they are of American or Arab origin, or of other descent; what matters is that their prophet should be Muhammad and there are 4.5 million Muslims in America alone.

“I am saying to all of them, revenge, revenge. Do not consult anyone about killing infidel Americans. You should have determination, and your targets should be effective.

“Go after the scum of the earth and its greatest criminals. That is Trump and his Vice President, JD Vance and his advisors in terms of administration, finance and technology, Elon Musk.

“Go after their families or anyone close to politicians of the White House.”

The US State Department had issued a $6 million bounty on the terror leader earlier.

Sa’ad bin also praised suspects who have carried out a spate of recent antisemitic terror attacks, as well as those behind the prior assassination attempts on Trump.

This development comes amid several claims by the Trump administration that there are heightened threats of terrorism against the United States.

Recently, he banned citizens of 12 countries from entering the US.

The US has prominently supported Israel in its fight against Hamas, which has been said to have led to a humanitarian crisis and the killing of civilians in Gaza.

In July 2024, then-Republican presidential candidate Trump was injured in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally.

He was dramatically escorted off stage by U.S. Secret Service agents after gunshots rang out in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The Trump campaign said in a statement that Trump was “fine” and that he was “being checked out at a local medical facility.”

In September 2024, Trump was the target of another apparent assassination attempt—his second in two months.

The attack occurred in Florida. According to the FBI, along with Trump’s campaign and law enforcement, the former president was safe and unharmed.

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that one or more of its agents “opened fire on a gunman” located near the boundary of Trump’s golf course and that an “AK-47-style rifle” with a scope was recovered, along with a GoPro video camera.

Sa’ad bin Atef al-Awlaki made this call, as he encouraged Muslims in the US to “take revenge.”
