Edo security operatives arrest nine suspected cultists, recover weapons
Operatives of the Edo State Special Security Squad, codenamed “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” have arrested nine suspected cultists and recovered a cache of firearms during a raid in Iguoshodin N’ Ikpemaba, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.
The Coordinator of the squad, Idemudia Noah, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noted that the operation was conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders following credible intelligence from residents.
According to him, the team responded to a distress call in the early hours of September 3, 2025, after reports that cult members were harassing residents of the area.
“On arrival, our men moved swiftly and arrested nine suspects. A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of two Baretta pistols, two cut-to-size double-barrel guns, and live AK-47 ammunition,” Noah said.
He disclosed that the arms were discovered in a building allegedly owned by Mr Osazuwa Igbineweka, the Okaighele of Omi, who has since been declared wanted by the police for allegedly posing a security threat in the community.
Noah explained that the suspects are believed to be members of the Eiye confraternity, a cult group notorious for violent clashes and criminal activities in parts of Edo State.
“From intelligence gathered and from the relief expressed by residents, it is clear that some of those arrested belong to the Eiye cult group. Their arrest has restored confidence among the people who are pleased to see decisive action being taken,” he added.
The Coordinator stressed that the weapons recovered were not civilian arms but prohibited firearms linked to organized criminal networks.
“Among the weapons recovered were Baretta pistols, cut-to-size double-barrel shotguns, and AK-47 ammunition, all of which point to the extent of the threat posed by these individuals,” Noah explained.

A Nigerian man is currently in shock after a young lady identified as Precious Chinyere , whom he took to a hotel in the Asokoro area in the FCT for a romantic getaway allegedly fled with his car and other personal belongings on Thursday, February 5,
The distraught man and Precious had visited the hotel and opted for a short time stay. Things took a different in the evening when the man noticed Precious had left the hotel room without notifying him and took along with her some of his personal belongings including phones and laptop and also his car.
The victim immediately reported the incident to the police.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, told LIB that the matter is currently being investigated and that efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the villages, opened fire on residents and burned homes.
According to reports, the de@th toll from the unfortunate incident hit 200 on Thursday night.
Reacting, the US Mission Nigeria condemned the k!lling via a post on its official X handle.
The post reads, “The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the de@th toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence.
“We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.”
