The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, has announced Saturday, November 7, 2026, as the new date for the conduct of Local Government Council elections in Imo State.

The Commission disclosed this in a press release dated October 5, 2026, and signed by its Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, JP.

According to ISIEC, the new date followed the earlier postponement of the elections scheduled for September 26 and a series of consultations with the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Imo State Chapter.

The Commission said an expanded stakeholders’ meeting would be announced soon, during which the amended election timetable and electoral guidelines arising from the postponement would be released.

ISIEC apologised to political parties, chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, stakeholders and the general public for the inconvenience caused by the postponement.

The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible Local Government Council election across the state.
