Nigerian singer Mayorkun has revealed that he once discussed conducting DNA tests on his future children with a woman he was in a serious relationship with, saying he wanted “peace of mind.”
Speaking during an interview, Mayorkun said he told the woman, “I hope you will not take it as maybe I don’t trust. I would just like to have that peace of mind.”
He said the woman was upset by the suggestion, adding, “I don’t think there’s one woman on this earth that will take it nicely.”
Mayorkun said men are now in “a new time” and need to take precautions against raising children who are not biologically theirs. Comparing DNA testing to prenuptial agreements, he said, “Bro, if you don’t sign prenup, you go regret am, man.”
He added, “This one na new batch of jezeebels. Now, so whether you’re doing prenup, do DNA.”
Asked about conducting a DNA test on children with a woman he loves, Mayorkun questioned whether love could prevent such a situation.
“You think that person that gave that man a bastard child doesn’t love? Bro, that’s true. I can’t just give. It’s too much of a risk, man.”
He admitted that discussing it with a partner could be difficult, saying, “Omo, this thing is like probably the hardest part of the thing, but I think you need to do it, man.”
Mayorkun also referenced cases where men discovered years later that children they had raised were not biologically theirs.
“Think about the way the man that found out that two of his kids… at the age of 18,” he said, noting that such discoveries can be even more painful when a man is older and can no longer have children.
For his own peace of mind, he said, “If you love me too… for my peace of mind.”
He also suggested that a man could secretly conduct the test, saying, “That might be the best thing,” while acknowledging that a woman could be upset if she discovered it.
