The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for hosting its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting within the State House, calling it a misuse of public infrastructure and a breach of democratic ethics.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the State House, funded by Nigerian taxpayers, should not be converted into a venue for partisan political activities.

“The decision to hold a party meeting at the seat of national power reflects a troubling disregard for democratic boundaries,” the ADC stated. “It is a misuse of state resources and a dangerous signal of how far the APC has strayed from the principles of transparency and accountability.”

The ADC extended formal congratulations to the newly appointed APC Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, but urged him to use his background as a former Resident Electoral Commissioner to promote fairness and democratic integrity.

“We hope Professor Yilwatda will bring a new level of maturity and responsibility to the APC’s leadership,” the party said. “We expect him to resist the temptation to use state power for partisan gain and to respect the right of opposition parties to exist and thrive.”

The party further emphasized that criticism of government actions is not sabotage and that opposition voices are essential to a functioning democracy.

The statement concluded with a call for a return to democratic values, urging the APC to draw a clear line between governance and party politics moving forward.
