ADC Crisis Deepens: Success Opara Slams Nafiu Gombe Over Court Injunction Against David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola
A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), respectively.
The injunction was filed by Nafiu Gombe, who had previously declared himself the Interim National Chairman of the party.
Nafiu Gombe’s move has sparked a leadership crisis within the ADC, with Gombe accusing the David Mark-led faction of hijacking the party’s leadership and violating its constitution. Gombe has vowed to challenge the move in court, describing it as a “shameful political takeover orchestrated by outsiders”.
Success Opara, Chairman of ADC Owerri Municipal, has faulted the court injunction, describing it as “baseless and unnecessary”. Opara argued that the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction and merit to intervene in internal party affairs. “The court injunction against the Chairman David Mark is baseless and lacks locus,” Opara stated.
Opara believes David Mark has the leadership qualities to propel the party to victory in the 2027 general elections. “We urge Nafiu Gombe’s faction to support the party and put aside animosity,” Opara stated. “David Mark’s leadership will bring unity, progress, and strength to our party and nation”.
Ekwutosblog had reported that INEC had officially recognized David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the interim national chairman and national secretary of the ADC, respectively. However, the court’s injunction has thrown a spanner in the works, leaving the party’s future uncertain.
