Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political organisation, has dismissed allegations made by Atiku Abubakar Isah, a factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as unfounded and driven by political motives.

In a press statement issued by Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere’s National Organising Secretary, the group described the accusations as an attempt to undermine the President and his administration.

The pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group also accused the factional student leader of acting as a proxy for opponents of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere responded to claims made by Atiku Abubakar Isah, a self-styled president of a faction of the NANS, who recently accused Seyi Tinubu of involvement in undisclosed misconduct.

Afenifere questioned the credibility of the accusations, noting that Isah’s activities were visibly aligned with anti-Tinubu political figures.

“This individual apparently has a political motive, as clearly seen in the banner he hoisted outside the venue of his supposed inauguration,” Omololu said. “That banner proudly displays the photos of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and other prominent members of the so-called anti-Tinubu coalition.”

The group argued that the presence of such figures on Isah’s banner serves as “prima facie evidence” of political sponsorship and a deliberate attempt to target the President by going after his family.

“Mr. Isah is being sponsored by the political enemies of Seyi Tinubu’s father and will, therefore, say anything to tarnish the President, which is what he is doing by attacking the son,” the statement added.

Afenifere further noted that no evidence has been provided linking Seyi Tinubu to the claims made by Isah, describing them as “spurious” and “outlandish.”

The group suggested that the real intention was to wage a “proxy war” against President Tinubu using surrogates who are unwilling to be identified directly.

“These tactics are going beyond descent and civilised politicking. It is dangerous. Let us be warned,” Omololu stated, warning that such political conduct undermines both civility and national unity.

The statement comes amid growing tensions between supporters of the Tinubu administration and opposition elements, some of whom have expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s leadership.
