Agbani Darego Shares a Fascinating Encounter with Nwankwo Kanu that Almost Blossomed into Romance

Former Miss World, Agbani Darego, has reminisced about a captivating encounter with football legend Nwankwo Kanu that could have potentially led to a romantic connection.

During a nostalgic recollection, the beauty queen shared her memories of meeting Kanu at a celebratory dinner hosted in her honor by then-Governor Peter Odili at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, following her historic Miss World win in 2001.

Darego recalled how the Arsenal superstar approached her during the event, introducing himself with a disarming smile and a memorable pickup line: “I am Nwankwo Kanu, I play football at Arsenal. Can I be your King?”

Although enchanted by his charisma and alluring fragrance, their moment was abruptly cut short when the Governor summoned her to join him and his wife at the high table.

Despite her hopes of reconnecting with Kanu that evening, he never returned to continue their conversation.

Reflecting on the moment, Darego admitted that she still blushes whenever she sees Kanu’s photos, wondering what might have been if he had been more persistent in pursuing her.
