Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has said the National Assembly led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio should be farming sugarcane in Ogbomosho, Oyo State because they are unfit to be legislatures.

Adeyanju said the Akpabio-led National Assembly is an enemy of Nigerians.

He spoke in an interview with AIT on the new Electoral Amendment Bill.

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law.

However, Adeyanju said the National Assembly has taken Nigerians back to 2023 when anybody 2003 when anybody could write election results.

According to Adeyanju: “They have taken us back to 2003 where people can just wake up and write results. What are you expecting of Akpabio?

“Somebody called me last year that I should join them to do electoral reform advocacy, although they are partisan people.

“I said me, you don’t even rate me, for me to do electoral reform advocacy for Akpabio, any electoral act Akpabio superintend over you expect him to be progressive? Of course what are you expecting?

“This is a doomed National Assembly, National Assembly that is irredeemable, they are worse than bandits in the forest, these are political armed robbers. I wasn’t expecting anything different.

“Nigerians have gone to the dogs. if not, how can you do this kind of rape against democracy? what do we need a National Assembly for if this is what they are buying cars yearly for, this is what they are stealing billions for, is it not better to invest the money in the judiciary, this is a waste?

“These people should be farming sugarcane in Ogbomosho, they are not fit to be legislatures, they are enemies of the country.

“My simple solution is that politics should be a hobby not a profession, we need to stop paying politicians because the Akpabios of this world the reason they are badly behave is because we are paying them.

“Let professionals like lawyers, medical doctors, engineers, and surgeons should leave their office and go to the National Assembly to do one week and serve the country voluntarily.”
