Akwa Ibom Chief Judge Frees 123 Inmates in Statewide Facility Tour
In a bid to decongest correctional facilities and address pressing issues, Akwa Ibom Chief Judge, Justice Ekaete Obot, has released 123 inmates following a comprehensive tour of facilities across the state. Many of the freed inmates were granted release on health or compassionate grounds.
Ekwutosblog confirmed that during her visit, Justice Obot expressed deep concern over prolonged detentions and poor hygiene conditions within the facilities. She called for urgent reforms to address these issues and ensure the humane treatment of inmates.
In a gesture of goodwill, the Chief Judge donated ₦300,000 to support the transportation needs of the released inmates. This act underscores her commitment to the welfare of those affected by the correctional system.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to improve the justice system and correctional facilities in Akwa Ibom State, highlighting the judiciary’s role in promoting human rights and dignity.
