Four serving members of the House of Representatives from Imo State have failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets to return to the National Assembly following the party’s primary elections held across the state on Saturday ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers who lost their re-election bids are Matthew Nwogu of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, Miriam Odinaka Onuoha representing Okigwe South, Harrison Anozie Nwadike of Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele Federal Constituency, and Emeka Martins Chinedu representing Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency.
The APC primaries, conducted through the Option A4 voting method in all 10 federal constituencies of the state, produced a fresh lineup of candidates alongside a few returning political figures.
Among those who emerged victorious are Ngozi Pat-Ekeji for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala, Chukwudi Anyanwuocha for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte, Sandra Inyama for Ideato North/South, Canice Moore Nwachukwu Omeogo for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East, Jonas Okeke for Okigwe South, Uchenna Agasu for Okigwe North, Dibiagwu Eugene for Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West, Cosmos Maduba for Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba, Akarachi Amadi for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency and Tochi Okere for Owerri Federal Constituency.
Ahead of the exercise, Governor Hope Uzodinma had reassured party members and stakeholders that the primaries would be conducted transparently while respecting existing zoning arrangements and the principles of equity within the party.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Owerri, the governor maintained that APC would not impose candidates on members, stressing that fairness and internal agreements remained vital for sustaining peace and unity within the party structure in Imo State.
He further explained that the adoption of the Option A4 system was aimed at ensuring openness, credibility, and active participation of party members during the selection process.
Governor Uzodinma also disclosed that several aspirants obtained nomination forms for various legislative positions, adding that the party remained committed to promoting inclusiveness by encouraging the participation of women and youths in elective politics.
He, however, urged all aspirants to embrace the outcome of the primaries in good faith, reminding them that electoral contests naturally produce both winners and losers.
The outcome of the APC primaries is already generating widespread political discussions across Imo State, especially with the emergence of new faces and the defeat of some incumbent lawmakers seeking another term in office.
