Benue trains 369 clinical students under renewed state bond programme
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has revealed that 369 clinical students have so far benefited from the revitalized state bond scheme created to boost the health workforce in the state.
Governor Alia made this known on Saturday, October 11, 2025, during the presentation of his administration’s scorecard at the expanded APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s State Secretariat in Makurdi.
He explained that under the newly restructured bond program, all beneficiaries were expected to work in state-owned hospitals for two years after completing their studies.
The initiative, he said, was part of ongoing efforts to expand access to quality medical services throughout Benue.
The Governor also lauded the leadership of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, describing it as a “major tourist attraction and centre of medical excellence.”
He commended Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, the Chief Medical Director, along with his management team, for their progressive reforms that have significantly upgraded healthcare delivery and repositioned BSUTH among Nigeria’s leading teaching hospitals.
