The bill seeking for the return of the old national anthem has pass second reading at the Nigerian green chamber according to report.

The old national anthem of Nigeria was “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”. It was used from 1960 to 1978, before it was replaced by the current national anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots”.

Here are the lyrics:

Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribes and tongues may differ,
In brotherhood we stand.

Nigerians all, and proud to serve
Our sovereign motherland,
Our flag shall be a symbol
Of freedom, truth and right.

In peace and unity we shall strive
To build a nation great and strong,
And ever loyal we shall be
To our dear native land.

Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land.
