A tragic incident unfolded in Futuk, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where a police inspector, Yusuf Ibrahim, shot and killed a Nigerian Army soldier, Master Warrant Officer Ali Haruna. The incident occurred on August 25, 2024, when troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade stopped a truck suspected of transporting solid minerals from an illegal mining site.

The truck driver initially refused to stop, prompting MWO Haruna to pursue the vehicle with his team. Upon stopping the truck, Inspector Ibrahim allegedly opened fire on Haruna, hitting him in the stomach.

The soldiers quickly overpowered and disarmed the police inspector. Despite being rushed to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, MWO Haruna succumbed to his injuries. The truck driver escaped during the chaos.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police met with the Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade to ease tensions and ensure a thorough investigation. The police inspector is currently in army custody, while the truck has been seized.

This incident highlights concerns over security personnel’s involvement in illegal activities and the need for accountability within the force. The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army must work together to resolve this incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
