The FBI has released two photos of a person of interest in the assassination of conservative commentator, Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed Wednesday, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University.
The images show a thin man wearing jeans, a long-sleeved black shirt with an American flag graphic, black sunglasses, and a hat.
According to FBI Salt Lake City Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls, investigators traced the sniper’s escape route and recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle. Foot, palm, and forearm imprints linked to the crime were also obtained.
The update follows two earlier announcements from authorities about individuals taken into custody and later released.
A single gunshot was fired at about 12:20 p.m. local time, 20 minutes into Kirk’s speech, a university spokesperson said.
Dispatcher audio released after the incident described the suspect as wearing all black, including a tactical helmet, mask, and vest, along with jeans and carrying a black long gun.
